Two Newfs Went To The Bridge Here Thursday

As people know from previous posts, you know we have dog sat a Landseer named Tigger on several occasion the last couple of years since he got very depressed in the boarding kennels they used for the other dogs and cat. So we had really bonded. I think he and Snuffles were tight too since they often laid together.

I knew 11 1/2 year old Tigger was going down in the rear end, but I was so shocked when I got a TXT message in the AM saying the Vet was going to come out and help Tigger to the Bridge. I just called the night before to see how Tigger was going. He would not get up and even quit wagging his tail. The sad part, the front end was alive and well. So sad to have to make that decision. I did go out early yesterday afternoon to say my goodbyes, do a bit of loving, and gave him some of Snuffles high value treats and ones I knew he liked from his stays here.

Then there was some even sadder news, another Newf a quarter mile up the road from Tigger and about the same age, 11 1/2 is also going to the bridge. I never got friendly with that family, though I had met 3 of their Newfs early on when Snuffles moved here. These are two families with multiple Newfs that live east of town in a very rural area. Tigger's human parents arranged for the other Newf owner husband to bring their backhoe and dig a grave next to at least 3 other Newfs buried out there. My friends' personal friend and vet is coming from 50+ miles to do the deed later that afternoon. Turns out the other family's Newf had quit eating and was getting quite frail, and they were facing the same decision. When the fellow came to talk about digging the grave, he called his wife at work, and the decision was made to let their Newf go too. They also used the same vet, so it works out for both, and neither dog has to die in a clinic setting. I assume it all happened but no conformation than the fellow had dug the grave before he came to dig Tigger's grave.

RIP Tigger and Leeah.

Anyway here are some pictures of Tigger when he was here.
