trimming

Is it ok to trim the area on the chest area, under the chin? Every time Brady eats and drinks he is dripping wet. He lets me wash him after he eats, but my husband says I am making him a "Momma's boy". But if you don't wash it, it smells awful....kind of like a sour towel.
Also we gave him a bath with the "ez groom" shampoo, he looks great. That shampoo is wonderful.

I trimmed the hair on Rory under her chin for exactly the reason you stated. It has helped. She still gets wet, but not quite as "drippy", and easier to keep clean.

The smell might be a fungus/bacteria some dogs get in the flews caused by dampness. I don't recall the name of the salve/ointment but I know one of my dogs used to get it. It smells really raunchy and the dogs love to have it scratched. It might be a sort of steroid cream I get from the vet. Works immediately. Keeping it dry would help keep the bacteria at bay if that's what's going on.

I trim that area for the exact same reason. You can use thinning shears to blend it into the mane. I like to keep it trimmed because it also gives the dog a "throat"--good for showing!!
