Considering one or the other - always thought the elliptical was easier on the joints - is that correct? Anyone have one or the other..... or both? and which do you prefer?

Thankyou!

I personally hate dreadmills. The elliptical is easier on your joints. Have you considered a spin bike? Takes about a week or so to get used to the seat but after that it's a great way to shed lbs with very little impact to the knees. I was a spin instructor for years so I speak from experience.

Elliptical definitely....With my arthritis I can only treadmill for about 15 minutes or so...but I can go on the elliptical machines for a long time with no pain.....
A spinning bike is definitely a great workout too though.....

Elliptical, definitely if you just want to get a good workout. Treadmill if you want to train for running. I personally feel the E is better on the joints, and works the upper body as well. I use mine 5X/week while listening to audiobooks.

ANother vote for the elliptical. My husband trains for triathlons so we have both at the house. But I have a disk issue in my back and I never have pain on the elliptical. The treadmill will make my back achy.

I know I've been wondering about getting an elliptical. We have a Tony Little "Gazelle" in our house and my other half uses it faithfully 5 days a week for 30 minutes and lost 50 lbs and has kept it off for 3 years. It is zero-impact on joints, etc, too.

I check Craig's list regularly for ellipticals.....You can get good deals there from people that had "good intentions" buying one but never really use it and want to get rid of it so it doesn't use up space in their house anymore.

I have an old Nordic Track that I purchased on Ebay under just those "good intentions" but failed. I think I will look into Craig's list to see about an elliptical. The zero-impact is what I need. I do outdoor walking, especially with the "pups" but I wanted something that I could do continuously without having to stop and smell pee-mail every 20 steps or so.....:icon_cool:
