We've been doing therapy visits at family court at the request of a judge who obviously believes in the healing power of dogs. I'm proud to say the dogs were well behaved under scrutiny of a committee formed apparently in opposition to dogs in the courthouse. We were being watched and we knew it. They tried the dog bite litigation excuse not realizing the dogs and handler are insured while on duty as long as all regulations are followed. It's no longer a pilot program and the committee relented. There is a real need for comfort for the children waiting to go into court. I'd give examples, but don't want to go there due to privacy. It's safe to say the employees get an enjoyable reprieve when they come to see the dogs too.
Last week, our organizer introduced Chumley and me to the judge. The judge said she had heard all about Chumley and was wanting to meet him. I wiped his floogers just in time!
