Hey all, I have been wanting to test the kibble I am using with Elle for digestability and swell vs. some kibble packets I recvd. from various pet health/food stores in the area.
I soaked them all for 35 mints. I soaked all the dry brands of solid gold, sensible choice's large/giant breed puppy formula, wellness super 5 chicken, and wellness puppy formula. I didn't bother soaking the wysong synorgen as I am taking saranewf's word for its crumble effect. At first I thought the sensible choice would be the worst sweller. Well, low and behold all the solid gold brands swelled up to twice their original sizes and remained spongey, sensible choice was next in swelling (about 1 3/4 of its size it swelled) and remained spongey. Both wellness brands remained the same size and crubled! I figured I'd just share some of my crazy evening activities. (dh is at a bhachelor pary at the archade with some friends, puppy is sleeping in the crate, kitties are sleeping and ds is asleep, so I figured I'd make the evening interesting.
Also, for those of you whose vets are telling you to stick to puppy formula and you are torn whether to do so or not, I realized, from reading the labels extensively, that Bill Jac Select and Wellness Puppy formula have very similar protein/fat ratios. I would def. subtract about 1/2 to a cup from the suggested amount to give to one's pup as the serving on the back seems to be consistently high as are the serving of lots of other brands.
Being a novice at all this, I am in NO way suggesting any of the above foods for anyone's puppy! *L* Just figured I would share some of the stuff I am reading as most of the stuff seems like GREEK to me! *L* Def. follow your breeders' suggestions and vets!
Hugs,
Ellesmom
PS My baby was 13 weeks on Monday, weighing in at 26 lbs! She is a definite challenge, very stubborn and nippy, but oh she is a smart, fun pup. I really think she would LOVE to go swimming. Does anyone think I should introduce her to the local lake's beach yet??
