Taylas home

We picked Tayla up this morning. She is still very sore, the surgeon said she would be this way for another three or four days.

The operation that he performed was a colposuspension. Basically the xrays found that her bladder was in the wrong place. It was sitting inbetween her pelvis, so when she layed down the pelvis was sqeezing her bladder so much that her muscles couldn't stop the pressure of the urine being pushed out. He has moved her bladder and has used her vaginal wall as some sort of sling to hold it in place. Now that the bladder is in the right spot and there isn't all the pressure buildup the bladder muscles should be strogn enough to control the flow of urine when she lies down. Hopefully. We will know if it has been successful in about 10-14 days. The surgeon sayed the operation itself went really well so her chances are good. :D
It wil take about four weeks for her to heal properly internally so she has to be kept quiet until then. Short on lead walks only for a month, no playing or stairs or swimming.
All in all in sounds promising though. Iguess we will kmow in a fortnight.

I'm glad to hear everything worked out with the surgery and hopefully this will be the end of the problem for Tayla! That would be great news!

I'm glad to know Tayla came through the surgery and is home with you. I hope the next couple of weeks flies by, and that you find the surgery was successful!

I am so glad this is over for Tayla. Poor thing no wonder she had a problem. Brady and Tim send a hug (both for you and Tayla). Take care.

Nicole, I'm SO glad Tayla is home and ok. But this isn't what we thought was wrong with the girls. Did you know it was that or were you expecting one of the other things? Did it still cost the same?

Hoping she has a super-speedy recovery and a great success rate,

Amy and Rory

Hi Amy

We had no idea this was wrong with her until the surgeon did the pre-op xrays. We thought it was one of the other things.
He told us this was quite common in female labs and dogs that size but he had never seen it in a Newfie before. He said she was the biggest dog he had seen with this complaint and he performs that operation every week.
The price was still the same. It cost $1031.50 for the xrays and operation. The surgeon was lovely. If you want his name and number email me and i will send it to you.
