Today we had the AC guy here for a check up. The last time he came we had only had Takota about 3 weeks and he was still basically untrained and very reactive to everything. Hubs came home early so I could focus on Takota as much as needed.
When the guy got here, Kota and I went into the back yard to do some training with this new distraction. Even when the girls were woofing at him across the fence Kota held his heel, sit/stays and down/stays like a champ. I did have to tell him "leave it" the first time since he wanted to bark (guess he thought the girls needed help) but he never broke stride!
Once the guy was done in the house we put the girls inside and Kota and I "heeled" in circles getting closer to the fence with each one. Kota then sat calmly at the fence beside the man with NO REACTION at all and stayed focused on me! This was a HUGE success! He has gotten very social away from the house but had felt the need to "protect" his home up until now.
I rewarded him with a nice grooming session and massage and then we went back outside (with the AC guy in the yard). Takota calmly sat or laid down on the deck watching him checking out the unit as the man moved around. We then went into the yard, did some more "training" and agility and walked right beside the guy with Kota showing perfect manners the entire time!
When the AC guy first got out of his truck and was getting things as we were doing our first training session he commented. "Wow, he sure has come a long way from the last visit!" I just about popped buttons with pride for our boy TakotaHonaw! I am one proud mom today! Almost six months since he came home and we have worked through almost every "issue" he came with now.
Kota is well on his way to becoming the perfect gentlenewf that I knew was in there somewhere! I can now see this goofy newfy getting his CGC and CGCA like his big sister. Last week we ignored dogs barking and charging and today we accepted a stranger into our "territory" because mom said it was "ok".
WAY TO GO TakotaHonaw! You are truly becoming you name, Bear who is friend to all!! :)

I have shared your frustration and jubilation in success. The serviceman's comment was just icing on the cake!
