Super excited! Cabo!

Yesterday, a friend of my husbands and mine started texting me to find out when I finished with my classes this semester. Her dad has cancer and has started a new round of chemo, so I figured she needed someone to petsitt for a week. How wrong was I!! She wanted to invite my husband and me for a week at her parents villa in Cabo; they own a timeshare there and all we need to do is buy our airfare, food, and pay for anything we want to do there. I'm super excited because I've never been out of the country, but man is it a lot to get ready to leave for 7 days!

I've a major planner, so I've already started. lol I called yesterday and talked to the boarding place we trust and for Thor to stay 9 days (3 walks per day), getting 6 days of extra playtime, extra walk, special cookie, and a bath with trim it comes to 500. I think this is a GREAT price. The rate per night is only 33, the extra playtime/walk/cookie is an extra 16 a day, and his bath with trim is 100. I'm planning on taking Thor in Feb, March, and April for at least one playday, so he will get use to the staff and them him. What is so wonderful this place, is that you can watch on the webcam how your dog is playing outside and inside.

Is there anything I need to do special?

PS. How is my grammar? I'm taking a class and really need to work on my grammar.

Wow I always cringe when I read what people pay for boarding in other areas of the country. If you were here Thor would cost $21 per day (assuming he is between 100 and 125 lbs. If he is over 125 than add $1 per day) for a total of $189. This would include all playtimes (4-5 30 to 45 minute play times per day), not leash walking, in our 5 acre play yard. He would also get 2 additional outside times to potty and play that are about 15 minutes each. Treats and other goodies are at no charge. The groom would be about the same. So he could be here for $289 total.

Have a great time in Cabo.

I think you were not quoted right
$33 per day for boarding add $16 per day for extras is $49 per day take that times 9 is 441 plus the groom the total is $541 for the stay.

The extra stuff we are only doing for 6 of the 9 days; otherwise, it would be 541. I so wish we were closer for sure! This is the ONLY place near where we live that we trust to watch Thor. We had him stay for a week with this lady that worked out of her home and was half the price, but his bath was not done well, she forgot his pills the first 2 days (then said something when I called her to check up on him and asked where they were), and he was in a kennel if not outside. I told my husband we will never take him back. This place also has a new pool and I want to see how much it would cost to let him play in it or if it comes with his playtime.

We go on and portion out Elvis' food into separate meals with all his pills. We mainly do that since we're closely watching his food amount, but also since he's great about eating his pills (dosaquin and fish oil) in his food we don't have to worry about him spitting them out and try to make it easier on the staff by having it all ready to go.

With a pool, you may want to ask about how/if they dry them off. You may come home to a few hot spots if he gets pool time every day and isn't dried properly. I'm not saying that to scare you, just to give you something to consider.

Cabo sounds amazing - we've been to Jamaica twice and are planning on the Bahama's this summer.

We have to portion out his food. We have to write on it AM or PM and even the amount that is in the food. Thor eats his Vit C pill, so my husband told me to just put it in his PM food as well. This place will even let me know how much Thor drank and how much it ate that day.

I had not thought about the drying issues, so thanks a lot for reminding me. I'll write that down to ask. :)

Wow! Have a great trip!

My dogs hate the kennel (we've tried 3; the only one they "sort of" liked was a PetHotel at a PetSmart - it was brand new, they shared a suite, had playtime and walkies together, extra treats, etc., and was in my old neighborhood so I felt comfortable with it, having been there a lot).

Where we are now there are just regular kennels, which are all echo-ey and there's usually dogs barking, which my dogs HATE. Stresses them out. So now we look for a dogsitter to stay over - they get to stay home and have company as well...

Have a GREAT time!!!!

We did think of asking our friend to come over, but he works nights and it would mess up Thor's schedule a lot. This place also plays music to help with the noise and for an extra fee (of course), there are a few rooms in another area that are more quiet. I'm going to ask about those when I go to see the boarding area. This company is family owned and been in business 30+ years.

Wow. Seems to me you've put a lot of thought into this. Hope you have a wonderful time. My son is there now on business and he loves it. . .especially since it's snowing like crazy in Chicago where he lives. Let us know how Thor did when you get back.

Jeannie, you don't want to know how much boarding costs out here. It's obscene.

Have fun Carrie! I hadn't been out of the country (as an adult, anyway) until my honeymoon three years ago. Maybe you'll get bitten by the travelling bug like I have!

I'm a major planner, so when she invited us yesterday, I went into planner mode. ROFL! I wanted to call and get a price so that I knew how much it would cost. I hate having things pop up when making travel plans. My husband knows to not mess with my plans. What kills me, is that we are not sure who all is coming yet. There may still be another couple and a guy coming, but we will not know for a while. Thank god we are all great friends.

I've always wanted to travel and the only place I've gone for a REAL trip was Boston when I was 19. After Boston, all I wanted to do was travel, travel, travel, but school keeps that from happening a lot of the time. Well, that and the fact that till I finish school, we just can not afford it. We both want to travel the world and plan on saving for trips like this when I start working. :)

Cabo sounds fabulous! I bet you will have a wonderful time.

it's great you have a kennel you like! I need to find one here because we are taking a trip this summer. When I had my first dog, I took him to a kennel and I think he did nothing but sleep on a slab of cement for the week. He came home with sores on his elbows. I promised myself I'd never do that again and have found nice places for my dogs to stay. But I've never taken Suki to a kennel before. I wish I was close to Jeanie!!!

Jeanie I think if we ever have to board ours we know where to go! So far we have had family stay at our house to take care of them if we leave but if that ever is not an option we will definitely go with you.

I wish we could have someone stay here that was more on Thor's schedule, but it seems not. I told Brad last night that I think I'm going to make sure Thor has the extra stuff everyday, not just the 6. Also, I plan on asking them if the day he gets a bath to allow him to play in the pool, that way I know he will get dried because a bath will happen after. lol

I wish we lived closer to Jeanie as well! boo
