Summer cut

There was a fb post on a newf rescue group I follow showing a nice summer cut for a newf. I decided to try it out. I only have straight scissors, combs and brush so I had a lot of trouble getting smooth lines, especially because I don't have a grooming table. I groom obi on the floor or deck and sometimes tie his leash to the railing so he doesn't wander. It is a bit of a negotiation... The feathers were really hard and look a bit choppy. I hope I didn't cut them too short. I thinned the pants a bit too but obi got fed up so I didn't do much there. Anyway, I think it looks okay for a first effort as a pet. It is tidier and cooler at any rate.

I think the pants and coat on his rear legs needs to be a bit shorter to match the front. Good summer trim! I'm going to take Adam short. Would have done it this week but I don't feel the greatest. The pollen count has been super high. I cannot take any allergy meds since I am getting allergy tested Thursday. I've been miserable.

He looks terrific and so comfy! Don't worry, you'll continue to improve over time. But what a great start! I'm impressed!

You may want to invest in a pair of good (not pet store) thinners at some point. They really help take some of the bulk out and clean up those choppy areas. Get recommendations from groomers on the right kind to buy.

nice cut. one of the other things I tend to do is cut a channel along their belly so they get better contact with a nice cold floor.

Also on their back end I do a v trim up to the anus so keeps them cleaner and the feathers hide the trim.
