Stressed about leaving Remi

We are going to Hawaii. Yes I know I should be thrilled. Everyone tells me so. You guys are the only ones that will understand me!

My daughter plays tennis for the University Of Chapel Hill and they are playing the University of Honolulu. We have been planning this trip since September. My husband and I are getting off work, son out of school, and flying with the team to Hawaii tomorrow!!! Why am I not more excited? Remi can't go with us!!!! I have never left him in the 16 months we have had him for more than 4 hours.

I found a great place for hime to stay. $23.00 dollars a day and they will play with him.... I have even ordered the a la carte services of nightly ice cream treat $1.50, frozen peanut butter kong $3.00, and they have a dog bed up at the front where he can sit and be with the girls that check in the customers for 30 minutes each day. He will go on a 20 minute walk and play in groups of 5 a couple of times a day also. I am taking his dog bed, toys, raised feeder, food, yogurt, pumpkin, green beans, supplements.... over today and dropping him off in the morning. Sounds great huh?

Why am I so nervous about leaving and going on my first vacation in 13 years with my family? Have I lost my mind? Will Remi have fun? It sucks that I cannot take hime with us. Will the time pass fast for him or will he think we have left him somewhere? Please send feedback before I end up in the loony bin instead of the islands!! P.S. We will be gone for 9 days.

Remi will be fine. Sound like he's going to an awesome place to stay and will have plenty of distractions and attention to keep him happy.

Enjoy your vacation!

I used to work in a dog daycare/boarding facility and honestly, in the hundreds of dogs I worked with, I never saw any of them suffer while boarding. The biggest thing is that you are comfortable with the facility and that they answer your questions appropriately.

I am a nervous wreck when I board my own dogs, and they stay at my old work, with people I trust. The nerves are just part of the territory, I think. I am sure he will do great and he will be thrilled to see you when you return, all tan and well rested!

When we have to go out of town, Tahoe gets to go to "Puppy Camp"...

The people that run the boarding facility here in town also breed Newfs...so he gets to go hang out with the big boys and girls every once and a while...plus I know he gets special attention for being a Newf... ;)

I'm sure your Remi will have a great time...so don't worry and go have fun on vacation...

Oh my goodness, now get that guilt out of your mind. Your dog knows you love him. Just plan to call the kennel ONCE when you arrive, see how he is - and trust me, they will say they LOVE him and he is giving out plenty of kisses. I know; my dogs trot happily to the kennel when I travel. People who work at kennels love dogs; they're not making minimal pay for the heck of it! They're getting a free "dog fix" every day they go to work - lucky them!

PS - bring the staff some macadamia nuts when you return, and aloha!!

Shoot, I don't even like leaving the house without Snuffles to go to like a Dr appointment. I only spent one night trip away so far and missed him a lot!

Leonard, you're not helping me one bit.

Seriously, I went to take all Remi's things and they are so nice. The Mom and Dad run the business with their son and daughter. They Love dogs and have lots of rescues there too. One they got when the owner never came back from their trip. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT! They had everything there except a web cam so I could watch for myself. I guess that's for the best cause I would be just watching Remi instead of enjoying my vacation.

They let me go everywhere and look around and I told them I was sorry for being neurotic and they just laughed and took lots of notes and really listened to my concerns. I thought they would croak when they saw all the stuff I brought but they didn't. They told me they have a little old lady that brings her dog and every time the dog eats they have to squirt a dollup of whip cream on her babies food. The great thing was they didn't even think that was weird.

I feel better about going, but I'm really gonna miss Remi so much! I hope he will be too busy having fun so he won't think we have left him.
