Peter,

Do you think the capsule form of the oil is as good as the liguid?

I ordered and received the liguid, but promptly spilled it as I dispensed it -- it's messy. So wondered about capsules.

Also== has anyone done a mg to cent comparison to see what is cheaper -- the liguid or the capsules?

Thank you=== we are on day one of the oil, starting with just a teaspoon to see how she takes it. Momo likes it a lot, the smell is fishy and divine!

The capsule has the same liquid as Vital Choice's bottled liquid version for children but is less expensive. However the pet version liquid in the pump bottle that Mary K. mentioned is not only much less expensive than the human types but is actually better as it is even less processed.

I agree with the supplement but I did not know about the one recommended in this thread. The vet gave me an Salmon oil to add to her food, is this not as good?

Unfortunately Vital Choice is no longer offering that big bottle. No matter how much I pushed. I do love their products but debating how cost effective their capsules would be for my girls.

vital choice sockeye salmon oil liquid

Does anyone know how many pumps out of the vitalchoice bottle equals 1000 mg? Peter has mentioned that 1000 mg per 20 pounds of body weight is a good amount, but I'm not sure how that translates into pumps. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I just ordered 3 bottles of capsules for Snuffles yesterday. He has been on a product I can buy local that has wild sockeye in it, but not pure and says it has been refined. But if it helps him get through this ruptured CCL without surgery, the cost will be minimal in the long run.

So the Vital Choice bottle I have says 3000mg Wild Sockeye Salmon Oil, and 600mg Omega 3 /per 3 soft gels. So based on the formula below, what number (3000 or 600) do I use to calculate Snuffles at 145 pounds?

The usual dose is 1000 mg per 20 lbs of body weight per day.

If your dog can tolerate it (not get diarrhea), then you can give as much as 1000 mg per 10 lbs of body weight; I do this for my seniors since the high dose really helps their mobility.

The 3000 mg for three capsules is the figure to use. I would suggest you start with six capsules a day. Since Snuffles has some joint issues you might work him up to 14 per day if his gastric system and your finances can tolerate it.

Alternatively you could give Snuffles six or more capsules of SSO and four capsules of turmeric. This combination has given new life to my old boy, Gander Bear, who is approaching 13. The quality of the turmeric is critical and I have found the New Chapter brand works best https://well.ca/products/new-chapter-turmeric-force_65306.html . Gander Bear weighs about 100 lbs and gets 10 SSO capsules and four turmeric capsules daily. The turmeric is slightly constipating which helps counteract the looseness caused by the SSO.

Thanks Peter for the quick reply. I have a local area friend that swears by organic turmeric for her newfs. I have not added that yet. I had started 3 softgels 2 times a day, just about the time the infection got into Snuffles face. So I took him off all supplements because we were up to almost 30 pills/capsules/softgels a day with the added antibiotics and Benadryl at first. Then I started him again when we got done with the round of antibiotics, and his left eye was still having problem. I did not think it was related, but by coincidence it looked like maybe. I even asked the Vets, but they also felt the SSO had no effect. Anyway, I just went to 4 before tonight's meal and plan to do 4 per meal (8 a day). So tell me is it best to do it all at one time or divide it up like I do. So far 3 per meal has not caused a issues with the gastric system. Now with his knee and infections we have a lot more effecting the finances though. :(

Best to spread it over the two meals.
