Why isnt there a certification that dogs can get so that they are allowed into stores!?! I mean if crappy parents can take their loud mouthed bratty little kids, why on earth couldnt I take a well behaved dog!?!?

Is it just me??? If I'd have to leave a dog at home, how come the kids aren't banned too?

Sorry, just venting. And for all the good parents here with well behaved kids, I dont mean to insult you, but guess what...you are severely outnumbered by Bad parents with poorly raised children.

Ok, vent off.

I agree...............In Australia you mostly can only go in pet-stores and agricultural type stores (ie produce stores)............... At least there is a lot of freedom on beaches and Rivers here and sofar in our area no-one has said anything about Main St etc. There are also some cafe's that have outside seating, who have actually put dog water bowls out side and even change the water for your dog when you sit down. I always tell these places that we go there because they think of the dogs. And that I will tell my friends about them. And especially in a couple of small towns here, they seem to be on the increase.................And ofcourse we have to make sure our dogs are very well behaved

I think that particular store is planning on people bringing in the pocketbook fashion accessory dogs...not real dogs...I would love to see what they would say if your brought in a Newf.
:lol::lol::lol:

btw - anyone know if you can take your dog into Lowe's? i've seen a couple there but i've never seen their actual policy.

Most stores around here dont allow dogs because of health ordinances, not that I see any difference in kids and dogs in that regard either.

Lowe's allows dogs but Home Depot doesn't. I was run out of one while at a show and needing stuff I'd left home. Can you guess the only home improvement place I'll shop?

Hehe, that store *is* for purse dogs and those that own them, but they have water bowls and treats for the dogs. I really should take my girls there.

I had no idea you could take your dogs to Lowe's...we go there all the time. Next time we're bringing the whole gang.

I think it depends on the Lowe's store. The one nearest us doesnt allow them, but some others do. Some home depot stores allow them. All of the corporate policies seem to state service dogs only. Most of the stores in my area are not chains, so it just depends on the owner of the store.

I know what you mean. I have been to many different countries and in most dogs are welcome on the public transit, cafe's, and shopping. Of course, in most the children are much better behaved as well....

We bought a great book in a used book store called The Texas Dog Lover's Companion. It was published in 1998 but we've had fun going to some of the places to see if they are still there (prob 50/50). It lists restaurants, hotels, campgrounds, doggie parks, festivals devoted to dogs and lots of natural areas where dogs are allowed. The author and his two largish dogs personally visited nearly every site mentioned - now, that's a rough job!:nod:

I think a big part of it here is our "sue anyone for anything" state of affairs also.
IF a dog should bite someone or knock them o ver etc, the owner of the store could be liable. That being said, there is also a chance that the unruly children we see everywhere could bite someone or knock them down too. wonder if the stores would be liable in that situation also. Maybe, just maybe, we'll see the day when little brats have to be muzzled and leashed in public places too. :groovy: :groovy:

We have a chain of called Rural King a Farm, Home, Apparel store. They do allow dogs at the corporate level from what I have been told. I know Karen takes Beau and Apache in to a store near her, and of course Snuffles and I frequent this one here.

I was told here a while back, that dogs would soon be banned from the local store. Why you may ask??? Because our County Health Department got a complaint because someone's dog peed on a plant OUTSIDE the store. Shoot that could be anyone stretching their dog or even a stray as well as other wildlife. The manager has not enforced the local ruling, and I gather the Health Department has not raised a big stink either.

Even when gas was over $4.00/gal, and this store is about as far away from me and still be in the city limits as you can get, but we still tried to frequent them even though I have a similiar store less than 2 miles.
