So Sad For NN Nana

It is apparent that the last bastion of what my Mom holds dear is gone. She came to my house yesterday to bake shortbread cookies. Something she has always been able to do despite being forgetful or confused. I left her to it while I did the tree. Alas.. it was something of a disaster. So naturally she was upset yet again. Just so sad watching a loved one decline. She is still determined to come back and do a pie or butter tarts. I don't bake but will keep a closer eye..:(

I am sorry...it is so very hard to see our parents loose their independence. It is one of the hardest things in life. But, one day it will be us I guess...just sad.

That makes me cry. I guess I'm lucky in that my family all passed away while they were still mentally alert. All but my Mom, that is. Still, having a loved one decline is so heartbreaking for all involved. I'm sending hugs to both you and Nana. I hope she will cheer up with the knowledge that she is much loved.

I remember when I could no longer orchestrate things in order to cook. It was very frustrating, it was like forgetting how to dance in a sense. The steps were extremely difficult and tying all together was a nightmare. If the recipe is written down it might help if you have everything measured out ahead of time or have everything ready to go. Maybe tell her you are there to guide her along and want to learn how she does it.
Prepare for frustration, patience will go along way to making it work.

Ok.. I don't bake. Trust me. So even overseeing will be problematic.. But a labor of love I did today and tried to recreate the cookies. Not bad even is I say so.. :tequila:

This might work, I do not bake either, but it sounds like you had a go and won :)

Sad when things get difficult..........I have dealt with a severe head-injury in my past and i can tell you how frustrating simple things can be, when you cannot do them anymore. but writing things down always helped.
