Smoke

They say where there is smoke there is fire. Well, here in Maine today, we have smoke. But, it turns out, no fire. Several customers have come in the bakery today asking me if I had smelled smoke. I did last night. Another customer mentioned that he smelled it this morning, and asked had I. No, I answered, but I just went outside and it's hazy and smokey! This customer also mentioned that there were wildfires in Quebec and the smoke is drifting to Maine. Just have been confirming it in the news. Here's a link to the story in the Montreal paper, yesterday: http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Quebec+forest+fires+spread/3086062/story.html

I certainly hope all of our extended Newf families and their loved ones in QC are safe and out of harms way!

Stay safe!

Everyone in the bakery today has been commenting on the smoke in the air. I understand that many local fire departments have been called as a result of the latent smoke, and I was told there was a definite haze in the air in North Conway, NH today. Now the wind seems to have changed, although the warnings are up from the National Weather Service until tomorrow. A dryer cooler breeze is in the air, and that's a good thing, I would think, for the fire danger.

Yesterday afternoon the skies cleared out, with cooler temps, so it was a lovely evening. This morning, we are once again waking to smokey skies, and a top of haze. We can't even see the mountains outside our house for the haze. The sun is shining, but the sky looks like it's getting ready to rain. It may clear out later today, but the wind could shift yet again.

Let's hope all in harm's way are safe at the end of the day.

Art, We are on the Maine/New Hampshire border in the White Mountains. Maybe an hour and a half cross country from Kennebunk.

No red sun yet, but the sky is getting pinker as the sun sets. Still not able to see the mountains that are on our doorstep. Even Mt Washington was in the haze when I hit the top of the notch this noontime. Here's hoping for rain and an end to the wildfires in QC. I really don't want to wake up to the smell of smoke tomorrow morning.

That's so funny in a way, because somehow where I live we got maybe an hour of haze, but the smoke passed mostly 10 miles west of where I live and down into montreal. WInd currents obviously spared me and my asthma from misery for the next few days, while in Montreal, the air is thick with smoke (or was yesterday). The fires are much further north than me..

Thanks for the update. The sun has sorta come out here, as we've had some rain today. My asthma was definitely affected Saturday, but as I was in A/C in the bakery there was some, but little impact. Just tightness at the back of my throat from the smoke.

Let's hope all are out of harms way and the rains come sooner rather than later!
