Showing a pup

Hi all,
I have a handsome 4 month old Newfie who is coming together very nicely. I'm really pleased with how he's turning out. Structurally, that is...*g*

If he continues to hold together, I would like to show him when he turns 6 months old. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that his once black coat is now turning brown. I've been assured that this is just a puppy thing. Is it allowable to show a pup that's part brown and part black?

Judges are usually pretty tolerant of the changing of coats (shedding, browning). By the time he's 6 mos old he will probably have lost much of that puppy coat and his new coat will be black.
Lightening of the coat (brownish tints) is usually from one of a couple things- sunburned coat or coat that is getting ready to be shed. Bathing him in a shampoo for black coats may help a little but the only thing that will really help is for him to shed that dying puppy coat.

Logan's coat is still brown as brown can be. Seems to be spreading down his legs although his feet are still jet black. His underbelly is completely brown as well. I can see a band of adult fur coming in on his tail. Looks very nice, is very black and shiny and feels wonderful

He turned 5 months old yesterday. When is this cruddy brown mess going to fall out? LOL

I put him on a good quality multi-mineral a few weeks ago just on the off chance that he's lacking something in his diet. He's also getting a powdered multi-vitamin supplement that his breeder recommended.

When I got Rory she was 5 mo old and covered with brown fuzz. Now she is a year old and only has a few patches on the back of her legs. Soon it will be spring and the warm weather plus the age your pup will be at then, you will see a lot of hair and undercoat coming out and the black will start to come in quicker. Rory's hair is not jet black though like my black labs, but that is OK.

the band of black around the tail is the START of his adult coat, you have a way to go yet.

I remember maggie getting a shiny black strip down the center of her back at about 5 to 6 months of age and it just spread over the next couple of months. She is now 10 months and black all over and shiney too! I bet by this spring your baby will be blooming black hair like crazy.
