Sharpening Nail Cutters

Do you sharpen nail cutters and if yes, approximately how often should it be done? I have a pair of the orange handle Miller Forge (sp?) and they don't seem to be cutting through the nail as well as they used to so I am wondering if they can be sharpened or if I am going to have to replace them.

Do you find that you often have to adjust the screw/bolt holding the handles and blades as if often comes loose while using them?

By the sounds of it they are likely still sharp ,your problem is the locking adjusting screw. No matter how sharp they are if the blades are not held in perfect alignment then you will not get a good cut.

Our nail clippers get loose/not sharp very quickly (impossible to sharpen??), so we just used to get new ones every two months... not very ecological, so we changed to using a dremel - it's perfect :) !

We did try the dremel several times and it just didn't go over as well with either of them but it made me especially nervous when our little one kept trying to lick it or sniff it while I was in the process of using it on his nails. :shocker:

Sometimes though, I end up wasteing so much time fiddling with the darn screw and bolt because if it is too tight it sticks and if it is too loose the springy thing falls out between the handles! I heard great things about the miller forge nail clippers so I must either have a defected one or I am not using them correctly.

Could be you just got a bad pair....it happens. Mine are over five years old and I've never had to retighten the screw or readjust them in any way.
Though I probably should buy a new pair, as I am sure new ones would cut better. I also have a dremel that I use rarely just to tidy up any miscuts or rough edges.
