So yesterday my daughter and I went to a Castaway Critter rescue group "pamper your pooch" day at the local park. There were a few vendors with fund raising items, and raffles along with lots of dogs to meet! Scout was very friendly, and very happy to be out making new friends. He was the only Newfoundland, but I (and he) was very excited to see many of the other large breeds! We met a huge Saint, a Mastiff named Abbie, a Berner named Chase, and a HUGE Pyr named Rudy! I had no idea that these breeds were so ,so large in person! All gorgeous!

Anyway, one of the vendors was a pet medium, and I thought for a $5 donation it was worth hearing what she had to say. St began by saying he loves people and minds this heat(of course, look at his gentle nature and his coat) and that he is not too fond of the little yapping dogs. She said that he tolerates them, but does not understand why they make so much noise! He also is sad that the house is quiet again since the kids have gone back to school, and he misses the activity. Also, he "laughs" at my son who is growing so fast and is always bumping into him doing goofy things. (My son is 8.) He also patrols the house at night and constantly checks on my husband who appears to stop breathing from time to time (sleep apnea), and he is concerned about that. He is also very happy and doesn't hurt anywhere except that his ear doesn't drain right and bothers him. (This is actually true as Scout is taking medicine for his ear infection and how would she know?) I asked if he was a happy dog and she told me yes, he knows his people love him and he is very happy where he is and he loves his routine.

Now, understanding that I did this mostly for entertainment and a good cause, what do you all think about pet mediums and the genuine thoughts and feelings from your animal? Would you have gotten your pet's mind read? The eyes are the window to the soul, and if it IS truly possible for someone to know what they are thinking, I sure wish I had that gift!

I can tell you this much-my niece went to an animal communicator and she totally believes in this woman. She has Beagles & fosters for Beagle rescue. She told me the communicator told her things that were spot on about the Beagles, things she couldn't possibly already know. She was very specific with her readings.

Honestly though, I can smell when a dogs ears are not healthy, but I can't smell it if they are many days into their meds.

What did you think of the experience? Did she surprise you with what she knew?

I would have ran home, brought her all three cats, and then asked her if she could do readings from pictures. I swear she would've become rich from just me. Then I'd worry what they all would tell her.

I believe in it, but I imagine that some are better than others. It sounds like you met with someone who really connected with your pup. We recently had an open house type event at my work (doggie day care/boarding) and there was an animal communicator there. Her price was higher, $20 for twenty minutes. She said she normally charges $50. I brought Leo over to meet her. Some of the stuff she told me I'm just not sure of, some makes sense. The only thing was that I had talked to her about him before she actually met him. My friends who were with me didn't think she was real good. I worry a bit because she told me that he does have some pain in his knee/leg where his injury was. This would be completely possible. I am going to bring it up to the vet.

If I ever heard of a true dog communicator here I would take Orka. He is extremely vocal and some of the emotions he voices are mind-blowing in their depth. It would be interesting. I would take notes right away so I could remember everything and evaluate it for myself. Actually I would probably record it so I don't miss anything.

About sleep apnea -- Lynn has it, has a CPAP which works well and Orka constantly is checking up on her at night. He does not check up on me. He is also obsessed with licking her hands while she's in bed.
