Scorpion bite :(

We arrived in Las Vegas today and I'm fairly certain it's been the worst day of Koda's life :( first we got her in the pool to try to teach her how to swim and when she couldn't figure out where the exit was she panicked. Then she went upstairs and found a scorpion and tried to eat it! I caught her as she spitting it out. Now I'm just worried. She seems okay but I'm looking for signs of swelling. Any tips on scorpion bites?

Did Koda react at all? Apparently there are different kinds of scorpions, some more dangerous than others? I have no clue. I googled it....and found some info.

If there's swelling, give Koda Benedryl and call the Vet asap.

Yea, I'm sure you googled it....I'd say get a phone number for a local emergency vet and make them aware that you might bring her in depending and they may be able to give you some advise if you explain your situation. (new in town today) Agree with Donna give her some Benadryl!

She reacted immediately when it happened, but since then she has acted totally normal. I even examined her mouth and there was no swelling and it didn't appear that she was tender to the touch either. The scorpion that stung her was very small, I'm hoping it felt similar to a wasp sting or something. I'm going to keep a close eye on her and keep an emergency vet number handy if anything looks to be out of the ordinary. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I'd put in a call to a clinic anyway ..because they may be able to tell you what variety of scorpion is the most likely, and whether or not you even NEED to worry. They will know whats common in their area.

Oh no, poor Koda! I'm sure she is just trying to help you get prepared in a new city and test how fast you can find the number to the emergency vet. Hope she is doing okay today! :hugs:

Koda acted normal overnight but I will be checking with a vet today just to make sure. She seems happy as a lark. She has been running around the house all day squeaking her huggle hound lobster.

good to hear she's no worse off for the experience and hopefully she's learned to keep away from the nasty little buggers

Oy. These dogs!
Hahah I know! I get that pups explore the world with their noses and mouths but of all things I think a scorpion would be the last thing I would eat if I was a puppy. They just look ominous. That's just me, but I guess I have never been a puppy before. It's funny because Koda is the biggest scaredy cat ever, she runs away from bicycles and anything loud, yet that scorpion didn't seem to phase her.. Strange animal indeed.
