anyone ever tried making sardine jerky? Wouldn't that be just about the ultimate treat? WEould you ever get the smell out of the house? Would every cat in the neighborhood be on your doorstep? Any recommendations...I think I'll try it.

Oh shoot, I'm busting a gut!!

edited to add: if you succeed, I'll order a dozen or so, cause I don't want that smell in my house or all those cats at my door. I'm Hollarin!

I haven't made it but I did buy some dried ones at Petco once. The smell was overpowering. Even Kimber seemed not so sure about it and she loves fresh ones.

Hope home made smells better!

Interesting idea!!! I might take our food dehydrator to the lake next time.... and plug it in by where we keep our bait! The smell wouldn't be so bad there! :D

hmm, annie. I was going to do it in the oven, but I could set up the dehydrator (if I can get it back from a friend) in the garage! Ha! the power of many minds (or as my daughter would say...mini-minds).

or worse than that bread i used to make...where you use the fermented potato...what was that called. Ok, heating up oven now, opening one small can of sardines...just a trial! Look out West Virginia.

Fermented potato? Oh gag. I'll take sardines anytime, and I really can't even imagine eating one! Bleh.

We just plop a couple on their food...why do you need to make jerkey out of them?

Don't Asian food stores already sell dried fish of some sort? Let them cook it!

I put the dehydrator in the garage when I do liver or I'll just gag myself to death the whole day (hey, maybe a new diet trend???). Let us know how the sardines turn out. I think it will be trouble with all the oil (can you get canned sardines that aren't packed in oil). And why do they always love the stinkiest treats?

ok, I kind of chickened out on doing them in the oven...but if I can get my dehydrater back, the garage's the thing. and yes, I buy the waterpacked sardines for Lucky.

I think the Salmon oil out of the bottle is much better than smelling the sardines or liver in my house!!

Seriously...do you give them sardines every day? Macy gets a few tablespoon of salmon oil in her meat mixture. Just curious...

Mine get a small tin of sardines each on their food on a Saturday night as a treat. In olive oil they love them and it makes the coats very shiny.
