this is a long story but back in May bella starting rubbing hr face along the fence which continued and then lead to an ifection 104 temp emergency trip to vet. biopsy done dx given superficial hyperplastics lymphohistiocytic/eosinophilic dermatitis w/sebaceous hyperplasia started on pred which helped her face still itching but not as bad we decided to take bella off pred due to increase weight gain and problems w/ hips knee joints in general. bella's on a diet has to lose 20lbs before surgery found out monday bilateral cruciate ruptures. she cant be on pred due to problems w/ joints i'm sitting her watching her rub her face on the carpet its starting over again some swelling to face losing some fur top of nose. anything I can get that might help natural to get her face thru this. The vet thought allergic reaction to plastics(water bowls) so I took them away quite a while ago. Tomorrow going to book store to get wendy volhard book after reading early topics on forum HELP!!!!!!!

I'm sorry you're having such troubles. If the itch is in the eyes, you can use a saline flush a couple of times a day. Eyebright (an herbal) is also good. I don't know what that diagnosis is, sorry.

If she has bumps on her face, you can try a little witch hazel with aloe. If you think it may be yeast related, you can mix vinegar with water and dab it on her nose and face (not near the eyes though.

I hope she gets better soon.

Poor baby....must be so itchy. :( Have you seen a dermatologist? Maybe they would be able to find out what is causing this

What about a simple antihistamine to stop the itching? Benedryl a couple times a day, may help keep her from rubbing her face on things. I know when my allergies get real bad, I rub my nose a lot! ;)

Maybe it is not allergies at all. Low thyroid and allergies have MANY of the same symptoms. Plus she is over weight, loosing facial hair--low thyroid symptoms. According to the vet who did Sam's ACL sugeries torn ACL can also be a result of low thyroid. I'd get a complete thyroid panel done from the University of Michigan. They do thyroid research and get better more accurate results

Hi Bella. I'm so sorry such problems are happening. The reason for the itching needs to be addressed. No matter what you do, if that is not addressed and corrected, everything you use will be only temporary.

Until you find out what the actual reason is,
maybe try some herbal calming tinctures. You can find some at www.petsage.com
We use Animal Awpawthecary tranquility blend". This might assist in reducing the itching and relaxing her. Also, trying the "Animals Awpawthecary vitality blend" will not heal it, but assist her while going through this stress so more problems don't crop up due to the stress of being ill.
Then try some of the "Animals Apawthecary Fido Derm Spray" for the itching area.

Maybe this will provide some comfort while you work this all out.

By the way, I'm not related to these people or anything, but I know the ingredients, and have used them myself with my boys on humans and used Animal Apawthecary products so I can comfortably say they are high quality.

Robin

P.S. If you would like me to explain each herb in the ingredients I will be more than happy to do so.
