Rescue Remedy??

Hi, I'm some what of a newbie to this list. I just posted to the Welcome Wagon (Newfy Sized Hey-Low).

I was wondering if anyone uses Rescue Remedy and what comments/advice they may have. My 5 yr. young Newf, Balli, is terrified of storms and I've heard about this product helping that kind of fear.

Normally it's not a problem. One of us sits on the couch with him and rubs his ears...he's trained us well
Problem now is my boyfriend, Ross, broke his leg 2 weeks ago and this solution is no longer very easy to do.

We've done research into the product and I plan to test it on myself first but thought if anyone had any firsthand experience...that would help a ton!

Thanks,
Keri and the kiddos

I tried rescue remedy on one of my dogs, who is terrified of storms and fireworks. I also tried it on my cat, hoping it would reduce the injuries inflicted whenever I try to clip his nails. (Injuries to me, not him!)
I saw absolutely no effect on either of them. It might as well have been water as far as they were concerned.
The animal behavior dept at the University near me has reported good results with D.A.P. I plan to try that and see if it helps my gal get through the Fourth of July noises. (It's available at Petco etc. as "Comfort Zone".)

I tried Rescue Remedy too on my lab that is afraid of storms and also found no effect. But Codes suggested I try Pepperming Oil sprinkled on the dog's pads of her feet and it has worked! I am sure it is an individual thing and that it may work for one dog and not another, but it is worth a try.
Oh, BTW, Welcome!!

Rescue Remedy works great on Troy. For some reason, much better on an empty stomach. I can't imagine why since you put three drops on their tongue (bloodstream vs stomach)???

Thanks for your replies! We've tried it twice and it seems to have some effect on Balli. Not quite the full effect of what I was hoping for but he's less barky and excited. Guess he still feels the need to live up to his nickname...Ball-larky

I did try it on myself first and must admit I felt very calm. Maybe it was just psychological??
