Dawn, I'm hardly young but I'd teach ya!Hey Charlie....I've stooped to using Vin's account on FB and I'm trying to understand FB but it seems to Chinese to meWhere's a young kid willing to teach an old fart new tricks
Kymythy's book is great and thorough. i have been doing RAW since 1989.it was due to finances. We lived on a farm and were broke due to drought and lack of work...use what you have for the dogs, plenty of cows and sheep, eggs, veggies and fruit.i just fed everything including whole rabbit which are a problem and vermin here in Australia. All cost us nothing.my dogs looked better, less vet visits, good ears, no skin problems except with rescue dogs that were new..So now we just keep on doing it...You cannot go wrong with RAW...and you dog will love you forever for the change. if you are on FB, I go under Ronnie TaftDawn,
I recommend this one. I don't personally have it but those I've recommended it to that got it, loved it.

It's a shame you're not on FB. The author of this book has a FB page called "The Holistic Newfoundland" and she is absolutely wonderful.
But, here is her personal website:

Ok, how did you convince Vin? My husband has the vision of salmonella drool all over the house...Thanks friends.....we are roughly two weeks into it and notice a difference in her itching pattern. Vince is amazed!!! We attempted to put chicken (quarters w/bone) into her diet (We've tried once before and I think she has a texture issue with it) and she shows some resistants but we will continue slowly and I've become a incognito member of FB Ahh, the learning curves of life.....but I'm sure we'll get there with a little help from our friends I'll keep you posted as we are knee deep in her season in a week or two! Thanks for the encouragement!
All the recalls on salmonella in commercially produced dog food and he worries about 'raw'?Ok, how did you convince Vin? My husband has the vision of salmonella drool all over the house...
How I convinced him to at least try a little was, I took out the pile of vet bills with all the history & logs we've kept in regards to her and said you have 3 choices....take your pick!Ok, how did you convince Vin? My husband has the vision of salmonella drool all over the house...
Haha. Well, to be more clear, we don't feed kibble anymore. She's on a cooked homemade diet. All the recalls on salmonella in commercially produced dog food and he worries about 'raw'?

It really depends on where you live and what sources may be available to you. I found a co-op...and, a local supplier as well as a butcher. For me....it's cheaper than buying commercial dog food. It costs me about $140 a month to feed (2) adult Newfs.I would like to go raw but have a fear of not meeting their nutritional needs. My DH doesn't want to increase the cost of feeding them. Our kibble now is $97 for a large bag and then add the cost of canned fish, pumpkin and green beans they get each meal. I think we are so close to going raw but I need that last push to make the switch. Neither of the dogs have allergies (knock on wood) and seem healthy. How much more expensive is it to feed raw?
