"puppy" weigh in/Atticus got "fixed"

Okay, I have missed the last few puppy weigh ins, largely because the vet lives across town and I hate driving all the way there just to weigh Atticus, who does nothing but race around the lobby and make fools of us both. Today, he was neutered, and is sprawled in the dining room on some really good drugs at the moment. Now for the two weeks of trudging out in the snow with him on a leash instead of just opening the back door and watching him from INSIDE where it's nice and cozy. His x-rays came back good. The vet said he sees no signs of hip dysplasia.

Now for the weigh in. I got compliments from the vet and his assistant for keeping such a well maintained baby. Atticus weighed in at a tentative 107 lbs (remember, he was racing around, waggling and wiggling). He stands about (very approximate) 29 inches tall.

forgot to add that Atticus will be ONE (!!!) on March 3rd.

Beau is 13 1/2 months old, he weighs 126 pounds. Apache is 20 1/2 months old, weighs 106 pounds and both boys are right at 29 inches tall.

Glad all is well after the neutering, I'm not asking Atticus his opinion though!

I have a midget Newfie! O.k., just kidding, but Boulder is 70lbs. He will be 6 months old on Feb 23rd. Is that small? He seems to be slowing down on height, but getting longer.

His weight sounds good to me to. You know better than most that slow even growth is best! Isn't it about tiime for some new pictures of that cutie? :D

Yes, you are 100% right. Pictures coming as soon as I can figure out how to make him stop running up to me every time I pull out the camera!!

Stanley will be 15 months on the 30th of Feb. he is 32 1/4 inches at the shoulder and weighs 145 as of 2 weeks ago. I am wondering if he is about done and if his chest has "dropped" yet. I have read of the "Chest dropping" phenomenon on Newf net before but I don't really know what it refers to. Anyway, he's a big, gentle, powerful, bundle of K9 that really seems to think like a human.

holy cow KelleyK! that's a TALL dog!

btw. I'm HATING the frequent leash walks right now. Those Michiganders will attest to the freezing temps here at the moment. There's nothing like wandering around with no apparent destination in the cold.

Mojo is a few days shy of 8 months, and weighed in today at 96 pounds. He seems to have been pretty steady with a 10 pound per month gain so far.

Ok I hope you guys are talking about height at the withers! As I stated, Indy is 8 ½ months to be exact – 29 inches at the withers – 35 or so inches overall and we weighed him at the vet about 2 or 3 weeks ago and he was 105lbs.

This is our first Newf so please bear with me! Based on the other heights/weights listed it sounds like he is running big. His growth has remained fairly consistent. That is a rate of 13 lbs a month and that makes sense as he was 27 or so lbs at 8 weeks. The folks at obedience say he is not fat and I agree – you can feel his ribs fine – but not like he is too skinny and the vet says he is well proportioned and not over weight. He does have fairly big bones from what I can see in other newfs.

However, at that rate, I am going to have a 200lb Christmas present!

Now he is down to about four cups a day so his intake is declining somewhat. Please tell me that this is normal and that I should stop thinking of renaming him Goliath!

When he hits about 10 months his growth will slow down dramatically. He will have most all his height by that time. He will just continue to develop and fill out. I'm guessing he will probably finish up around the 155-65 mark but that's just a guesstimate.

Lola will be 11 months old next week. She is nearing the end of her first heat (day 22/23 today).

I think she's about 100lbs and about 26" at the withers (but she won't stay still long enough for an accurate measurement  )

Hey! Atticus shares my birthday!! And my twin sister's as well!!
We're just 40 years older!!
Merlin is 10 months old and was just weighed at 53 kilo..which is about 124 pounds..definitely NOT fat. If he wasn't peacefully sleeping at the moment, after a very long period of throwing the stuffed warthog, I'd measure his height right now. What is this chest drop thing? (3rd Newfie, but first puppy).

Cash is just under 4 months and only 41 pounds. Should I be expecting a growth spurt at some time? He is on the lean side and I am trying to keep the growth slow, but 41lbs seems small as there's a Lab in our puppy class who outweighs him by a few pounds at the same age. His dad was very big around 175, and mom was around 150, so i wouldn't think he would be a small guy.

4 months and 41 pounds is exactly on the "rule of thumb" of 10 pounds per month of age. Don't worry about it ... it's better to keep pups a little thinner than it is to have them too heavy. He'll grow when he's meant to.
