For the silent auction I am having a few companies wanting to donate items but they want the specific name of the Newf Rescue where we are donating the money to, can someone tell me what that is so I can tell these people? Rhonda

even a website would be great, they just need a little more info on where our money is going to.

Getting donations of items sounds like a great idea. Could someone PM the info to me about where the proceeds are going, too? Thanks.

All the proceeds are going to South Central Newfoundland Club Rescue. At this time they are in the middle of building a new website. If you click here SCNC You will be taken to the new site that is under construction. It has a link to the old site that is still up and running

Just got back from Lunch with Russell and we were talking about several newf related things (go figure) including fundraising for SCNC Rescue. I told him that the proceeds of the brown bag/silent auction at the gathering were earmarked to go to SCNC.

While he is most grateful, Russell is uncomfortable with taking all the money. He feels it is unfair because many of you are coming from areas that have Newf Rescue programs. He thought that the most fair way would be for all proceeds to go to NCA Rescue.

I agree that it would be unfair to have all proceeds go to SCNC, but I think it's not right that it all go to the NCA. I guess what I would like to figure out is how many rescue "areas" will represented by participants at the gathering. Maybe we can divide it up more fairly, and we could even send something to the NCA.

This certainly is merely a proposal. I would appreciate comments and thoughts on how each of you thinks this would best be handled.

IMO saving a newf is the goal, so what does it matter if the newf is from SCNC rescue or another regional club or even the NCA?

It does not matter which club benefits from our get together, just as long it helps newfs in need.

I agree that saving newfs is the ultimate goal. I just want to be fair. We have people coming from all over the United States and Canada, and I thought it might be nice to share the proceeds with Newf Rescues from their areas.

I think it would be a good thing for the group to decide together.... how about a poll?

Is there a Newfie out there that needs us more than the others? In other words is there a high-risk Newfie. If not we could put all their name in a hat and pull one out and this is the one we help.

Any allocation is fine with the two of us.

Just happy that by this plan we can end-up helping newfs. Can't ask more than that!

Thanks again for hosting / managing this neat event!

Okay, how about whoever donates the item, designates where the funds are to go. That way, nobody is left out, and if someone wants the funds that their item brings in to be split among all listed that is fine too.

While I commend Annie and Russell's generous suggestion to share the wealth with other newf clubs, I agree with the others that a newfie in need is a newfie in need, regardless of location. It makes sense to me that Jeannie's local club be the one to benefit since she is hosting the NN get together. Besides, it might get a bit complicated to try to divvy things up among several clubs.

As far as I know there are only two in Canada, One in Manitoba and one in Ontario.Last time I spoke with the guy who runs it(ontario) they average 6 - 8 Newfs a year.I'd say go with the first Idea or split bewteen the national club and local.Karen

I think Kirsten said it perfectly and agree with her 100%. She took the words right out of my mouth.

OK, so I want to say this without seeming biased. While I don't care which rescue gets it really, beacuse like you I want it to go to newfs in need, I am curious what the national does with large rescue donations?

I know what russell does, and what most other local clubs thus probably do (get animals fixed, boarded if need be, groomed, etc....) but I am less sure what the NCA rescue does beyond referring...

Additionally, I'm not sure splitting the money is a great idea. A few dollars here and there isn't going to do a lot to help newfs in need compared to making a large difference for one or two clubs.

Lastly, this is not an official NCA event or even an official regional club event. I for one am not an NCA member.

I know SCNC has had a busy year, I know the money that goes there goes to the dogs. That's what I care about. The fact that we get to hear stories about the dogs in SCNC right here, well, that's a bonus....

Frankly, if I were travelling, and the people holding an event were affiliated with a rescue group, I would expect the moneys to go to that group. And I would have no problem with that.

I say, tell Russell not ot look a gift horse in the mouth, not to make this more complicated than it already is, and just be generous an not bitch when YOU buy stuff Annie ;)

Shhhssshhhhhhhh Laura... don't let the cat out of the bag... he hasn't figured that alot of "our personal money" will end up in the proceeds, cause I plan to do "a whole lotta shopping"!!!

Seriously though, if everyone is comfortable with the money going to SCNC... so be it. What ever the majority in attendance feels is appropriate.

However, I think Susan (Ivoryudx) made a great point, and if someone wants to delegate proceeds from a particular item to go to another club, then I think that request should be honored. I can handled that.

I just want everyone to realize that SCNC is our home club, and that Russell is the Rescue Chair. We just felt a little awkward about this. However, when I was telling Russell about all the responses, he did say that he certainly wouldn't turn any $$$ down... cause as Laura says, the last 15 months have been very busy and expensive year.

And, for the record, NCA does cover the costs of dogs rescued in areas that aren't covered by regional clubs. They also help cover expenses of dogs that have major issues. There are several volunteers spread out throughout the USA who foster and place dogs for the NCA.

Annie, off the top of your head, we all know you have fosted a HUGE number of dogs this year, but how many has SCNC placed/fostered in the last 15 months (you said they wre crazy...)

SCNC had around 21-22 dogs go through it's rescue in 2003. In 2004, we've already had 4, which doesn't include the 2 that are about to come in, or the one that some guy called about last night.
