Preventing Ear Infections

Bristles seems to be prone to ear infections this water season. Does anyone have any thoughts on preventing the ear infection. Am keeping the fur under the ears trim and have been cleaning her ears once a week with a cleaning solution but with all the time she spends in the water I seem to be losing the battle. Appreciate any suggestions.

I use a 50/50 mixture of white vineager and alcohol. Put it in some type of squirt bottle with a long snout (a plastic ketchup bottle) and pour into ears daily. she will smell like vineager until it dries. The vineager will kill the bacteria and the alcohol will dry any moisture in the ear.

I just answered this in the Grooming section, but I make the solution that Jeannie mentioned above,( but I use 3/4 cup of rubbing alcohol and 1/4 cup white vinegar). You can put it on a cotton ball and squeeze it in the ear

I've had good luck with the Blue Power ear solution. It's a mix of rubbing alcohol, boric acid powder and gentian violet. I actually use this solution on Ebony for various skin issues that may pop up...hot spots, bug bites, etc. It says it can stain and although I have spilled it on my light carpet with no issues, I wouldn't recommend using it on white areas of a Landseer.
Just click on the Blue Power link...
