Please Help UTI and Weak Bladder!!

Hi!
I am new here, we have a beautiful 12 week old black Newf. Unfortunately we have had a lot of issues since bringing her home. She has been urinating like crazy since day one. I mean she drinks and its going right through her. So much so that I took her and a urine sample to the vet. The first sample came back so diluted that the vet became concerned about a very rare disease called Diabetes Insipidus. We had to restrict her water before bed and take another urine sample first thing in the morning. Thank goodness that came back concentrated so it ruled that out but this time it showed elevated white blood cells, so the vet is treating her for a UTI. She is showing a little improvement but still urinating a lot and is now leaking while she is sleeping. The vet wants to complete the antibiotics and then put her on PPA because he believes her bladder muscles are to weak. Has anyone had any experience with any of this?

Oh no I am sorry...when we first had our little girl she did the same thing...always peeing. The vet took a sample also but all looked fine. She just had to pee a lot. Her vulva was inverted and we blamed it on that...does your little girl have that issue also? Our puppy stopped when she got a bit older...around 5 months...I hope you get some answers for yours.

I would wait until the antibiotics are completed before giving PPA to a pup. Most likely it is just a UTI and she will also improve with age.

Hope it's a UTI that clears up quickly, but while your at it, also ask your vet to tell you about ectopic ureter. Newfoundlands are at a higher risk for this condition and females are more likely to have it than males.

Thanks for the great advice!! The vet did talk about ectopic ureter but didn't feel it fit because she isn't always wet or leaking a great deal...just pees a lot and occasionally leaks when she's asleep. She wouldn't be put on the PPA until her antibiotics are complete, if we even put her on it at all... I'm really torn on that. The more I'm reading on here the more I'm wondering and hoping she will outgrow it! I really hate to give her something if it's not necessary. It's making house breaking her a little difficult, although she is a very good girl and does seem to be making an effort to get to the back door. I guess I might as well buy stock in paper towels!!
