There is a sticky at the top of the photo forum with helpful instructions. Have you looked there? (Though, honestly, even with those helpful instructions, I still got frustrated learning to post pictures.)

There is a post somewhere on how to upload pictures.

But just for starters, you need to upload them to a photo hosting site like Photobucket or one of the others.

Then you can copy the link by clicking on it in the photo hosting site, coming back here and clicking on the little yellow icon that looks like mountains at the top of the text box and pasting the link in the box that pops up.

Hope that makes sense.

Are you trying to attach a photo using Newf Net's attachment (paper clip icon) feature?

You are very limited as to file size and dimensions if you go that route.

jpeg: Size =19.5 KB 620 x 280
You are much better off uploading your pics to a photo hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket, then copy and paste the link into your post. I have an account with each host, but Photobucket is very user friendly. I do all of my editing and resizing before I upload, but Photobucket has tools to re-size and edit your photos.

Just create an account, and upload your pics. Once you upload the photos, You may want to resize them to post here if they are too big.
Once you upload the pic, hover over the pic you want to post and you will see several ways to share a photo.

I just copy the image code (where the arrow is pointing to) and paste it here.

That's it, you're done!

Totally frustraited trying to post a picture on here.:banghead:
Have Karen show you. It is easy if you let some web site like Photobucket host the picture. It can be hosted here, but there are limits as Garden Girl mentioned. See the paper clip icon when you compose a new message. But a 800 by 600 picture works pretty well. I use IrfanView to reduce pictures and set the file size. There is a option on the "Save" as well as a free Plug In to do the file size limit.

As Garden Girl wrote,
jpeg: Size =19.5 KB 620 x 280
is not entirely true. A file with the JPG extension is allowed 97.7 KB with no dimension restriction best I can figure. The funny thing is, I think jpeg and jpg are the same format. One just goes back to MS DOS file extension 3 character limit.

Yes, they are the same thing. Jpeg is just the written form (and also an abbreviation) of the file extension .jpg, just as Tiff would be the written form of .tif. Abbreviated forms to fit within the DOS file extension format.
I used to work on a DOS platform, too. I think that is why two of my fingers are numb. :)

97 kb, good to know, I never use the attachment feature because I would have to resample all of my images, I am going by what the attachment feature says-that's why I quoted it. ;) If you are on dial-up, it would make all the difference in loading/viewing the pic at 97kb or less. And, of course, I am just assuming that is what the problem is, I don't know for sure, my assumptions are usually WRONG.

If you are on a windows based PC, you have Paint to edit pics. There are free programs like Gimp, Fotografix, Irfanview, Picasa (to name a few) that you can download to your computer to edit pics.

There are also free online editors to resize pics like Pixlr (which looks amazingly like Photoshop) Fotoflexr (easy interface) Ipiccy (fun to use) and Piknik. You can also adjust the file quality to fit within/below the 97 kb range.
You can upload, edit your pic and save it back to your computer.

Please don't get frustrated, Newfy Smitten. As you can see, NN'ers LIKE pics, so they are more than willing to help you get them posted! :)

For Hemingway, no need to upload your pic to two places. Right click on the photo you upload to your blog (the smaller, resized version that appears on your blog page), go to properties. Copy the entire address under properties, come back here and paste it using the picture icon that Jane mentions above.

OR you can type
leaving no spaces in between the two sets of brackets.

What a sweetheart!
If you right click on Hemingway's photo in this thread, you can see that the address in properties is the same address of the photo on your blog. Hope this helps.

Been doing most of my pictures on newf.net these days by resample to 800 X 600 (600 X800) give or take and using the RIOT Plugin save option set to 97.0K in Irfanview and using the paper clip icon on the newf.net composition screen to up load, then attach. It is limited to like 5 pictures as well as the size I think. If more pictures, then I us Photobucket and the IMG statements.
