Picky Eater - one year old.

My one year old female will walk up to the bowl sniff and walk away. I've tried almost every type of Fromm Food and Acana.. I can't seem to find the right food that she wants. I usually have to mix it with an egg or something to get her to eat. I'm thinking about going RAW but I this is my last resort.
Please send me feed back with ideas or thoughts.

Could it be the bowl? Or what?!!

Thanks guys,

Jeff

I know some more expert dog trainers/owners/handlers will chime in here before long but I do know that a dog will not starve itself. As long as the kibble hasn't gone bad or a bad bag then it depends on how you want to handle it. Tough love - you put her food down and after 10 minutes pick it up until the next meal. She will eventually eat.

We were kibble feeders who morphed into raw feeders. I wouldn't go the raw route unless it's what you want. It's considerably more work than kibble. Don't get me wrong I would never go back to kibble but I don't want to mislead anyone.

One of our Newf's is picky about snacks or new food given to her by hand. We have a toddler staying with us who is very generous and feeds her food to the dogs. Our picky Newf has to smell it and decide if she likes it. But the raw food we give her in her dish she inhales.

Is she spayed? If not, she could be just hormonal.

All my dogs, around 8 to 12 months went on a picky eater binge. I agree that a dog will not starve itself. Put the food down, then take it up after 10 to 15 minutes.

I agree they won't starve to death and I also would just put the dish down and pick-up after a short time.........But I am also a RAW feeder and never have the "no eat issue".

Some people will tell you dogs have no taste...i beg to differ. i know my Annabelle has certain things she will NOT eat...whils she loves smelly, stinky tripe. She will not touch kidney. No matter how well hidden, she will push it aside. Same in the fruit department. Katy who loves all fruits, will not eat pear. She loves apple and if you cut bits up, mix it up and put them in a bowl with the pear, she will leave the pear.....Annabelle will eat her pear and Katy will eat Annabelle's kidney....We have a few other bits like that. So I do think dogs have taste and i think some do just not enjoy dry kibble.......Mind you we also have the vacuum cleaners in our household (Lukey, Tessa and Harry), they will eat anything and everything...........We have found a lot of benifits with RAW and even though initially it was a lot of reading and weighing and worry..we now just throw the meals together by eye......They love it

Obi does not like certain plastic type bowls. He will eat out of stainless steel and off our correlle plates though. He is a bit fussy too. We dress his kibble with egg and or sardines. But, if he doesn't eat it all it is wasted. You can't let it sit out.

We found ours like smelly fish kibble but not salmon.they dont like lamb or rice dried but will happily eat raw.also if Malc adds water to the food they wont touch it .

Also ours hate plastic bowls, sstainless or ceramic are fine .also some places they arent so keen on so try a different position and place.one of mine used to be red of a wooden box as her sight was going and she knew if she felt the box against her then she could position the bowl better.

Snuffles is the same way. Never found a dry food he would eat dry. Snuffles in his old home would binge eat. He would easily go over a day and not eat, then eat it all.

I spoil Snuffles rotten and make some kind of gravy/adder for it. Lately it has been in the AM, a 1/4 cup of a gravy made with about 8 to 10 grams of Honest Kitchen's Embark dehydrated food mixed with the kibble. Evening he gets some boiled diced chicken breast and the 1/2 cup or so water I boil it in mixed with his kibble.
