Pet Store Newfie (sorry, long)

That really can be maddening when you finally decide on something and it is gone when you get there! I guess you can only be happy for the pup that he is out of there and in a real home. The unfortunate part is that there probably will be another pup there within a short time.

I am very sorry that Jonah won't be coming to live with you. It is so frustrating. Thanks to fellow Newf Netter and SCNC Member Greg L for going to check on the pup today (it really is a small world, isn't it!!!)

I just had an opportunity to read this whole thread. What a commendable thing for you to want to bring Jonah home with you. Here in our area there are not many pet stores that carry puppies and kittens anymore, but what is springing up all over are stores that JUST sell puppies. You walk in and there are just puppies everywhere. I can't take it. I just want to pull a Pee Wee Herman - remember the movie where he ran in the pet store in the fire and freed everyone (including the snakes). It breaks my heart to see these pups, especially the large breed dogs. One particular store is right next to the movie theatre and swarms of people are always in there picking them up, putting them down, dropping them - it's awful. The lady behind the counter wears a medical uniform, I guess to give the idea she is from a vet's office. I have never seen a Newfie in there, but last time I popped my head in there was this poor little English Mastiff pup. It was awful. Lord help me when I get my new place with a lot of land !!

I'm with you Nancy!!! The influence these wonderful dogs have over our lives and the decisions we make never ceases to amaze me. I never imagined that I'd want to buy lots of land, just to create a haven for Newfs in need. Jeannie's done it, and I think that is so very special. I hate the thought of any dog in a pet store, and I had forgotten that scene in Pee Wee's movie... it was wonderful.

I just read your post I have to say I feel absolutely ill over the thought of any dog in such a situation. I commend you on the way you stood up to the manager of that store.
My response would be to lock her in a cage with her employees so they could poo and pee on each other then drop them down a 20 foot wall to land on the hard ground and see how they liked it.
I have to believe that Karma has a special way of coming back to people who are too stupid, igonorant and evil to walk the face of the earth.
I am so sorry you were not able to get Jonah. to reiterate what Gad said, it sucks (forgive my language).
Huge kudos to you and the local Newfie club for being the wonderful and caring people you are.

Shifty, I am sorry about Jonah. But you and your wife sure did the right thing. Thank you for caring.
