I just leave the back door open!! But, I do live in the "tropics" of Canada here!
I can in the early mornings, but then the flies show up and I have to close it. We do have a doggy door in the garage that goes to the back yard, but I wanted another one for the Sunroom.

I also just leave the back door open when I'm downstairs, they go in and out as they wish, so do the cats...they like to sun themselves on the deck.

My neighbor has one for his Newf. He loves it since he works long hours and doesn't need to worry about accidents. I'd be afraid of someone stealing my pup? But if home all the time I'd say it's a good idea.

We have a dog door in our family room leading outside to our fenced in yard. Not only do I absolutely love it but the dogs love it too! We live in northern New Hampshire and it we have very long cold winters here; generally we will "enhance" the door with a small insulated curtain in the winter and the house stays warm.

Best investment we ever made for our furry family.

How about a door that'll let the dog out but not my cats?
I seem to recall that there is a pet door that has a magnetic locking system - only an animal wearing the correct collar can open it - made for keeping raccoons out of your kitchen, but I know of people who've used it to give the cat a private area in the house, or to let the dog out but not the cat

I'll see if I can get the name of it from them for you

I install Larsen doors on jobs on a regular basis, they are good quality if you get their better models; never installed this model, from the picture it looks like it would work; do you have to get it shipped or is there a suypply house nearby (lumber yards, building supply).

I got a good deal on my dog door on ebay. I have an insert for my sliding glass door and just love it. I have put extra hooks on my back gates, not so much so somebody won't steal the dogs, but because the stupid cable people, yard people, etc. ignore my beware of dog signs and try to open the gate anyway when we are not home.

Love the idea of a doogy door but a stupid question. Wouldn't a door bign enough for a newf be big enough for a person to come through?

I was going to ask the same question! My girl weighs as much as me. Is there away to get around that (the possibility of it being used by an unwanted human)?

If you install the doggy door in a wall, you can build a dog house that covers it. Just looks like a dog house...
That being said, if I were a burglar I wouldn't want to see the huge dog that uses that door.... :) Not that that would deter all of course.

You can order it through Lowes!

Yes, but this door is in the back yard with 6 foot fencing all around and locks on the gates. AND, we have a neighbor across the street that watches EVERYTHING and EVERYONE that comes and goes on our street.

dog doors

I built a dog house over the front to disguise it...I figure if anyone wants to crawl in there, let um....my cat does not use the saloon type door.
