I don't understand how people can be so cruel. I know she has mental issues but it still breaks my heart.

Loralyn Thomas

A woman who told Nederland police last year that she was attacked by someone wearing a "Scream" mask has been accused of killing her dog.
Loralyn Thomas, 50, of Nederland, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, prohibited use of a weapon, harassment and menacing. She is being held in the Boulder County Jail on $50,000 bond.
Nederland police originally arrested Thomas on suspicion of menacing on Oct. 28 after an acquaintance told police that Thomas had left a threatening message on her answering machine, according to an arrest affidavit. In the message, Thomas said she had killed her dog, planned to kill herself and would kill the woman as well.
When police arrested Thomas at her house, a large black dog ran out of the building, according to the report. Police put the dog back in the house before taking Thomas to a hospital for a mental health check, then to jail.
The next day, Thomas' cleaning woman called police to say there was a dead dog in the backyard with blood around it, the report said. Another dog was alive in the house.
A veterinarian who did a necropsy of the dog found it had been shot in the head with a .38 caliber bullet, the report said. Police later found a .38 caliber handgun and ammunition in the drawer of the nightstand in Thomas' bedroom.
The dog appears to be a Newfoundland, police said.
Last year, Thomas called Nederland police to report that someone wearing a mask from the movie "Scream" had attacked her and cut her with a knife before being chased away by her dogs. Thomas had cuts on her arms, some of which required stitches.
Nederland Town Marshal Ken Robinson said police were never able to "prove or disprove" Thomas' report.

It sounds like she has truly gone off the deep end. Poor pups and poor lady too. I hope she is able to get the help she needs and I hope the surviving pup finds a good home.

OH my GOD! I have CHILLS! I know this woman! She came to water training this summer with her Newf! She had a traumatic brain injury, after an accident not too long ago. Her Newf is supposedly her therapy dog. Other than the portable oxygen tank she used you wouldn't really be able to tell she had any issues (she drove a car, etc). And she causes such a disturbance to our training (apparently) she was asked not to come to anymore training sessions or club events. I am shaking. Her Newf was such a sweet sweet girl. It's even more frightening to me, because she was in the water with my Bojie, at training. Do you want to hear something very ironic? ANYTIME ANYONE calls for "HELP DOG" in the water, I wouldn't be able to hold him back if I tried. This woman, went into the water and called for him, and he REFUSED to go, refused to leave my side. THE FIRST, AND ONLY TIME I have EVER had him not go to a "drowning" stranger. A fellow Newf owner we train with out here had the same problem. The dogs actually cowered and ran back to their cars away from her. Keep in mind, our dogs are all therapy dogs, and used to people with disabilities, etc. Thank you for posting, I've passed this along to my Newf friends/ club members out here. I am not sure I will get to sleep tonight.

Ugh...This makes me sick...

And it frustrates me to think of her dogs and the others out there who are in need of rescuing (or even fostering!!) that I would LOVE to help but know I'm not financially able to do so right now...

I do hope this woman gets the help she needs...

I'm saddened and sickened by this story, though...

That is soo true and so sad..........My Josh bit a guy, the only time one of my newfs ever bit a guy. We found out weeks later the guy was a child abuser and he was with children. We always wondered why he had not reported Josh to the Police.

My hear breaks for that dog. Dogs know, all those dogs who would not go near her knew. As said before SAD SAD SAD.....:(

I was just told she had just taken her dog to the vet who diagnosed her with a heart condition and was told it would progress rapidly. In her eyes, she was trying to put her dog out of her misery. I just cant imagine.
