OFA problems

It depends on your needs. If you are planning to breed, you should get a valued opinion. I have had numerous difficulties with the OFA, so I turned to the OVC (Ontario Veterinary College). They were prompt, and offer the same service as OFA. You also might consider the Penn/Hip method. You will have to find a certified Penn/Hip vet however, and the expense is high.
I do like Penn/Hip, as it offers a more scientific reading of the hips, based on mathematical calculations. OFA and OVC offer opinions, subjective at that.
The public is much more familiar with OFA though.

Years ago, when I first began breeding, early 70's, most breeders did not xray their dogs, and those that did, valued their vet's opinion. Very few sent into OFA. Now, the reverse is true.
