OFA Clearance

If you're not a breeder, is this recommended? Honestly, OFA was never brought to our attention until we started looking for our newf. Looking for opinions and even some knowledge. Thanks - Amy

My understanding is that it helps the breeder. If I was a breeder, I would want to know how my lines were developing structurally.

Not only does it help the breeder but it helps potential buyers. They can look at results of siblings/half siblings and so on.

You don't have to but most show dogs do get OFA'd because of their breeding potential. So it depends on your goals with your boy. I don't think your breeder requires it, so it is up to you, Amy.

It helps the breeders and buyers, I would have done the testing anyway because I wanted to know what was up with my dogs. I decided to post the results on OFA (though I spayed my girls this summer) for my breeder and for anyone who is looking into buying a pup from the lines or other breeders who are researching breeding into the lines.

It was not in our contract. This all makes a lot of sense though. I didn't think of it this way. I was under the impression OFA clearance was only if you were going to breed. Thank you.
