Hi everyone...could you please tell me what food you feed your puppies? LuLu Belle is now 12 weeks old and she has decided she doesn't like her food! I had her on Blue Buffalo fish and mixed in a little canned food as she didn't like it all dry. Now she snubs her nose at everything. I also want her to have THE best start so need answers right away. Of course our Vet wants her on Science Diet Puppy food but we all know that isn't great food. So please let me know as I need her to eat...she has actually lost a pound since being at the vets. She weighs 28 pounds...

I used Canidae All Life Stages when Gracie was younger, also Chicken Soup for the Dog, both of which she liked very well. We have limited options here in West Virginia, but both of these were available and well tolerated at a moderate (sorta) price. Of course she's now on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken and she likes that very well. I guess Gracie is not a very selective eater.

Owain who is not now a puppy ate Proplan Turkey and Barley at the breeders. When he came home at 9 weeks I tried switching him to Eagle Pack Lamb and Rice which I have fed the others for years. He was grossly allergic to Lamb and so since that time he has continued on Proplan Turkey and Barley and done well.
No way would I be feeding Science Diet though!!

I wouldn't recommend Orijen for a pup. While the Calcium and Phosphorous amounts are desirable, the calorie content is very high which can fatten certain lines too quickly. Also the addition of salmon makes the amount of calcium in the diet unclear. The big thing is to keep the calcium low in order to slow the growth - to less than 3% A lot of breeders use ProPlan - food I'm considering for my next litter IF I can get past the ingredients...

Your breeder should be guiding you through this critical time. Growing out a giant breed is not easy. Orthopedic issues can be caused by not only genetics, but also the environment and nutrition.

I don't like Orijen for a pup either. I think it is already high in calcium/phosphorus and adding sardines and salmon make it even higher. Mine like Pro Plan.

Frank has Applaws too, he loves it but it doesn't seem to be agreeing with him....slightly soft do doos so may well change to arcana....have you tried putting the dry food in the microwave for a bit....this works when Frank is being fussy apparently the smell from heating it up a little helps to make the meal more appealing xx

Nature's Variety Instinct frozen raw chicken formula. Perfect Calcium/Phosphorus levels for a growing pup. If you're looking for kibble their Instinct Rabbit formula has pretty good c/p levels. Both are AAFCO certified for all lifestages, the raw went through feeding trials.

Loss of Appatite can also be due to a UTI..........has pup actually had a urine test.just frequency, loss of appatite, spells infection, unwellness to me

R Taft...she has had her urine checked and it was ok...do you think we need to re-check? She has had all her puppy shots so I know she hasn't had a temp as they check before giving her shots...she does drink a LOT too, so I was wondering if she could have diabetes...she has been putting on weight as she weighed in last week at 43 pounds. She is 15 weeks. Her energy level is still pretty high.

I will make an appt. to get her re-checked...last time they did a pee catch...do you think we need to do a catheter to make sure? The thought bothers me as I don't want her to be scared of the vets office as we seem to go a LOT. Should we do a blood test also?

The reason I am suggesting further checks is because you have the lots of peeing problem, thirsty and now not eating...they are all red flags to me, especially combined. of course it could be all just individual things.....BUT...... I always get things checked. And in the past if i have not had interest form a vet, I change vets.....

My dogs have had the bladder tap and not even realized with a good operator. Vets should not be scary, even if the dogs have had horrible things done. my katy loves to go visiting and she has had so much surgery and bits and pieces done and even stayed ther due to my paranoia after a bloat episode.i take my dogs for visits too. just a quick hello, treat and nothing...it works to let them know the people there. A good vet is the best thing for our dogs and a happy place to take them is just awesome.....treats, lots of yummy special treats on the day
