I am very new to NN, but I have had Cleo for nine years. Living in So Cal Newfs are not common. But this article came out awhile ago in the area I live in. When I red it I got chills and then the tears came. But I just wanted to share this with everyone; it is great PR for newfies.
Of course we all know how great they are. http://www.toacorn.com/news/2007/0201/pets/032.html
In the paper deliver to houses the pic was in color and much bigger, just great.

That is a wonderful article and it brought a few tears to my eyes too. This is something we all know but it's nice to see it in print every once in awhile.

I'm going to see how I can send some bibs to Archie. I think he needs a few with some special sayings on them.

I also think this would be a worthwhile cause for our Newf Net family to raise some funds for Archie.

I agree, there is no one better to do this then us! Let's get it started.

Sweet article! But did they say they shave him every month?

"And his long, thick fur must be shaved down every month. Not only for hygienic reasons but so that he doesn't become a fearsome sight to the children."

A fearsome sight??

From the pics in the original story I think they just trim him short. He did not look shaved and the city he lives in does not get that hot. They are closer tho the ocean and get the crazy grey weather (cooler in summer, warmer in winter)

If you need me to get you more info please let me know. I am happy to help you. Your kindness is making me speachless.(which is hard to do)
I have always known what a kind place this is for kids in need in are area but this article just showed what lengths they go to to help the kids with their problems. A big slobby kiss always makes everything better!

What a great story. My kids recycle every month and donate half of the money to different causes. They usually choose between the local Shelter and German Shepherd Rescue. They have now decided to donate all of their recyling money to Archie every month. We live about 2 hours from Archie, but I'm going to contact the director and see if we can give our first donation in person so we can meet Achie. Does anyone know where to buy the bibs? We would like to donate some of these as well. Thank you.

Emily, I didn't see your most recent post - can you tell us how we can send the donations - it appears you are much closer than us.

Donation info please!
We had always hoped to train Elwood to be a therapy dog, but after we found out he had elbow dysplaysia, we got verrryyy lax in his training. He's a good boy, but would never pass the test. Maybe someday, but right now, we'd like to help Archie!

Hi all
I have a call into the person at Casa Pacifica and am waiting for a reply. They have a website and info about donating to the place itself. But I want to know if you need to do something different for Archie.
General info for all

Hello All
I have new info for everyone. First Archie has to have knee surgery and goes for consult on thursday :( So they are raising fund for this currently.
Also he will be a 1 year old this weekend.

He goes home every night with Vicki and gets all his energy out at the house, she says he is always calm with the kids. And the kids miss him when he can't go to the facility.

All Donations can be sent to:
Casa Pacifica
1722 South Lewis Road
Camarillo, CA 93012

And mark them for Archie.
I also told her about this great site I myself just found called Newf-net
We may be seeing her on it also.
Tina M. if you are still interested in visiting PM me and I can give you more info. She was very kind and offered a tour of the facility and to meet Archie.

Oh my - he will be 1 and he already weighs 165 lbs? I wonder if that's the cause of the knee surgery he needs? Poor baby!

Nonetheless, that is one sweet story and a beautiful dog. Thanks for the info!

Edited to add: wait, the article says he is 20 mos (in Feb), so he must be turning 2. That makes more sense!
