ok someone alerted me to a litter of pups west of me, by about 2 hours......so i call......
he is selling them for 8--$ and letting them go at 6 weeks, BECOUSE THEY ARE EATING DRY FOOD
can you believe that is the reason, asked about socializing, keeping them with mom longer, socializing them, keeping them at least till 9 weeks.
he says, well any ohter dog can go at 6 weeks.
oh my, i just wish people would educate themselves before jumping into buying from hoolagins like this.
there is more but it makes me so angry to hear about this....

I think the same people are advertising in the Minneapolis paper. After reading Brenda's post, I checked today's classified ads. There it was. I'm assuming it's the same person because it's a 715 area code and the same price. But this ad says they'll be ready to go April 4th. Still way too early. How sad. And I'm sure they will get plenty of responses - in my pre newf.net days, I would have called if I was looking for a pup. After watching Morgan with her bad elbows, though, I've learned my lesson.

Do you think if a lot of us call and start asking about health clearances, socialization, guarantees, references, etc. they'll start to get the idea? I know it won't help with this litter, but maybe in the future they'll think twice before breeding?

Boy I think the enmasse phoning and inquiring is a great idea. Wish I didn't live on the other side of the planet or I would join this effort!

Sadly I do not think we would get through to them. From their point of view, why should they wait another 3 to 4 wks to get their 800 for each pup minus feeding and vet expenses.

I would think anyone that is thinking of buying a newf pup, would know that they don't cost $ 800.00, the cheapest newf's I've seen are $ 1,500.00.. I guess you get what you pay for..poor puppies

Unfortunately, I think the people who haven't learned enough to know what questions to ask a breeder are the same people who haven't done enough research to determine what a dog from a good breeder is likely to cost.

Ya you said a mouthfull!! That would have been me a year ago. People just see a cute fuzzy puppy and thats it. I now try to talk to anyone who will listen about puppies breeding etc. I'm sort of a "fanatic" now. At least that's what my dh says :D . I don't know what I would do if my old groomer(the puppy broker) decided to start in on newfs! They'd have to lock me up!
