New Poster with sad 1st post...

I hate for this to be my 1st post, but I wanted to mourn the passing of our great Newf, Raleigh, and felt this was a good place to do it. We helped Raleigh cross the Bridge on Wed. He was suffering from an enlarged heart from SAS, and to our surprise, bloat. We and his vet didn't feel he would survive the surgery for the bloat, so we had to do the hardest thing we've ever done. He was only 6 on 4/14, but having been diagnosed with SAS since age 2 1/2, I guess that was a pretty long life. We miss him terribly, though! I feel that there's a big empty hole in my heart, and a big empty backyard at home.

Thanks for reading. :(

Erin

PS - Are there any other Newfy owners in Western Colorado on the forum? We just moved here, and I'd love to get in touch with some other Newf lovers.

Erin,
I am truly saddened by your loss. Even doing the right thing for your dog is terribly painful. I hope you find the support you need to help you get through this. May memories of Raleigh bless you,
Anne

I am very sorry to hear of your loss too. I know how hard it is to make the decision you did. We made the decision to put our beloved Samoyed to rest 2 years ago. It is very painful to think of even now, but over time the happy moments we had with him are what we remember most. You will find a great support network here at Newf.Net. Welcome!

"I Believe"

Every now and then,

Soft as breath upon my skin,

I feel you come back again.

And it's like you haven't been,

Gone a moment from my side.

Like the tears were never cried,

Like the hands of time are holding you and me.

And with all my heart I'm sure,

We're closer than we ever were.

I don't have to hear or see,

I've got all the proof I need.

There are more than angels watching over me.

I believe, Ohhh I believe.

Now when you die your life goes on,

It doesn't end here when you're gone.

Every soul is filled with light,

It never ends and if I'm right.

Our love can even reach across eternity,

I believe, Ohhh I believe.

Forever, you're a part of me.

Forever, in the heart of me.

I will hold you even longer if I can.

Oh the people who don't see the most,

See that I believe in ghosts.

And if that makes me crazy, then I am...

'Cause I believe.......

Ohhhh, I believe...

There are more than angels watching over me.

I believe, Ohhh I believe.

Every now and then,

Soft as breath upon my skin,

I feel you come back again.

And I believe.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your sweet thoughts (& poem!). It really helped during this sad time. We're still sad, but feeling a bit better now. We'll look into getting another puppy in a few months (or whenever one is available!). We can't replace Raleigh, nor do we want to, but we can't imagine life without those big brown eyes gazing into your face!

Thanks again-
Erin

Dear Erin,
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my newf Crocker last year June 21st. My heart still aches and I think of him all of the time. When you get your newf pup, you'll look into his eyes and see Raleigh-I promise! They are always with you when you get another Newf!!!
