My family and I just joined Newf-Net and are looking forward to chatting with fellow newf owners. I fell over laughing :D (at work  ) with the stories shared today and couldn't wait until I got home to join. So, here we are.

Welcome
Good idea SAR, it might be fun to rehash some old funny post to hear more stories from the new members. If anyone found something funny bring it up.

Well, Bear (sorry, it isn't original) is 16 months old. She is absolutely the cutest thing. She is the first newfie we've ever had and are thrilled to have her. Like her sister, Shadow (our 9 year old Collie/Shep), we worked with Bear to train her on voice and hand signals. On a lark, we also trained her to ring a bell to go outside. In hindsight, I think the bell trained my children more to get up and let her out
I promise to post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it.

I was reading the posts about snoring and farting newfs. Thankfully, Bear does only the former and not the latter. Although she does belch quite a bit. But what really got me going were the stories of the scary carpet, parsley, shoes, etc. Not having owned newfies before, I was shocked when Bear took a barking fit when she saw a horse for the first time. We decided to walk around New Hope, PA when she was 11 months old certainly to show her off like any new baby to the family. We couldn't walk more that 10 steps before being stopped and questioned. But she put the brakes on when the horse and carriage was coming down the street. I've never heard such a deep resounding bark. I must admit, she isn't found of the vacuum cleaner either whether it is on or not.

LOL
newfiebear, i am sure you are finding out everyday, how fun it is to be owned by a newf/newfs
they are quite the clowns, and they are also highly intelligent, they like to fool you though, making you wonder ifthey really are smart, and just when you doubt that they are, they pull the rug out from under you!

You are soooo right...Our collie/shep is probably the smartest dog I've ever owned but I think I've been dupped more times than I care to think about with Bear. We often get the "wasn't me" look from her followed with an incriminating glance at Shadow almost as if she was saying "you didn't hear it from me but..."
All in all though, we've never had more smiles on our faces since bringing her home. It was worth the 1300 mile round trip to go get her (we didn't want her on a plane so soon after 9/11 so we drove out and back in 36 hours). We transported her brother, who we nicknamed Chewbacca, to Maryland as well.
