New(f) Construction

I got divorced earlier this year and have been in the process of buying a house for a few months. I finally settled on a tear-down/rebuild project. I just found out I close in one week! That means River and Mal will finally be back with me (they've been staying with my ex who loves them and watches them while I travel anyway).

Here are the things I've had the builder change because of my dogs:
-Fence the whole yard, not a postage stamp size potty pad
-Light fixtures had shades on them. I'm sorry, have you SEEN the way Newf hair accumulates on a lamp shade?
-Paint needs a glossier finish. Why? I have to be able to wash the drool off it...
-Back stairs need to be wider. My two knuckleheads like to go up and down at the same time!
-Harder floors. Impenetrable, preferably. Should have just had them leave the concrete

And the last change that has cemented my rep as crazy dog lady? The master bathroom door needs to swing out not in. It was blocking the bathtub and if River can't guard my bathtime she would just break down the door anyway!

All excellent ideas, but this last bit is too funny! Ah... the obstacles our sweet newfs face trying to take care of us. I'm going to be laughing about that all day - thanks for sharing!

A swinging door on the bathroom was always my desire.

Hugo, RIP, used to sleep in the bathroom and would deliberately shut himself in there to concentrate the air conditioning in that small room. Then he would position himself against the door to stop the cool air from leaking underneath it.

To his credit, I always thought it was pretty smart of him to figure all that out. But have you ever tried to open a door in a bathroom emergency while a Newf was leaning against it on the other side?

I am jealous that you are getting the opportunity to thoroughly "newf" your house. It's a dream of mine to some day get the chance to build a house to "Newf specs". LOVE the upgrades you have planned. :)

Holy COW Jackie, I have been a nervous wreck all weekend! I thought the missing River ( in Ontario, I think) was YOUR River!! I swear on every post I asked if it was you and no one answered me, probably because they thought I was a nut. I think I was even throwing ( I know I was) random last names out because I couldn't remember yours.

That sound super stalkerish, but I was worried. :roflmao:

Aw! It's definitely not me. Sorry to hear about the missing River but mine is doing well. Thank you for worrying about us.

I think that was the River who was rescued by Newf Friends in Ontario and had major surgeries to repair her knees? They then placed her into a really good home. I'm so glad she's been found.
