Shadoe is scheduled to get the big snip next week. The Dr mentioned scrotum sac removal?????? According to them large dogs sometimes have a hard time healing so they can do it as a precaution?????
Anyone suggest this .....just don't want to feel like my bill is being jacked up.

Oh, hmmmm. I've never heard of that. I will be disgustingly honest and tell you how pathetic and....um.......shriveled..... Elvis was for awhile. Not that I wanted to get up close and person in that general area, but he had some razor burn issues that required daily cream and power so I couldn't help but look at it.

It's been completely unnoticeable since the fur grew back. His healing issues all had to due with being shaved and his delicate skin.

I had Chumley done 2 months ago. My vet asked me if I wanted the sac removed or not. I told him I know nothing about it so I asked him which he would do if it was his dog. He said he'd remove the sac as well. I'm glad I did this since he had red skin in that area from rubbing. He's had healthy skin in that area ever since.

We just discussed neutering Mal with our vet. The way she explained it is that she would prefer to do the sac removal later. Sometimes after they've reached sexual maturity, the sac won't shrink up on its own like it would in a younger dog. She recommended we do the neutering and if the sac becomes an issue, we would remove it later.

How old is he?? My boys were all neutered around 18 mths and never had the sac removed. It shrunk to almost nothing on all of them.

My Adam had a sac reduction and I wish I never had it done. He took extra long to heal. I had problems with him bleeding, seeping and just being in pain. It took everything I could think of to get him to not lick it because he was so sore. He had on shorts, an e-collar and a bite not collar. He was in total misery. Afterwards the vet said all the toubles were from the sac removal and his sac would have reduced in size on his own. My word of advice DON'T DO IT!!

I knew Sonic a great dane....he didn't have any issues (neutered at 8 yrs of age) with a normal neuter, yes his sack hung a bit because he was neutered so late but never had issues...only issues I can think of is brushing or combing might be a bit tender at first until it shrinks. I didn't have any issues with Zeke.
