NCA Certificate for 14 years

In its annual search for the oldest living Newfoundland, starting with 2009 the Newfoundland Club of America only acknowledges nominations for Newfs that have reached 14 years of age. Such nominees are acknowledged in two ways: by being listed in the NCA magazine, Newf Tide, and with a certificate attesting to the accomplishment.

While some people dismiss such a feat as "luck", I see luck as 10% chance and 90% effort. It is my hope that my old girl, Mary-Belle, will get her certificate for reaching 14 years in 2011 and it will be a proud moment in my life.

Since I have never seen one of these certificates I asked my good friend France Landry to send my a copy. She got one for Kali (her first Newf) who turned 15 in 2009 and another for Angelik who turned 14 in 2010. France puts a lot into caring for her Newfs as demonstrated by the large freezers that she keeps stocked with raw meat (six freezers) and raw fish (three freezers).

Here is the certificate sample. It is my hope that in the future most Newfs will qualify for this award and then the bar will have to be raised still higher.

I'm sure you will get there and I hope your wish comes true too. That would make many Newf owners/breeders/enthusiasts very happy.

I don't think I could survive Echo living to be 14. She's 12-1/2 and her front half is good, but her back half is getting weaker and weaker, and I'm having a rough time picking her up any more.

My Samantha has only 15 weeks and 3 days to be 14. Of course since I am no longer an NCA member she won't get honored with a certificate. I am proud of her no matter what. I think 13 years 8 months and 2 weeks is an accomplishment of its own. I'm still hoping she makes it to 14!

Every year I will be putting the results on this Forum; that way everyone can compare their seniors and let us know how old they are and where they would fit in the list of nominees.

Of course you can always put Samantha in a co-ownership with a friend who is an NCA member and as long as she is registered with the AKC, she would be eligible for a certificate and hopefully, someday, for the award.
