Natural anti critter stuff

I agree that they fall out of the trees, Murphy.

One day I was planting under a Bradford Pear in our front yard, which no deer will approach. The tree is only feet from the house.

I was covered with deer ticks, from the head down...not from the feet up. I know they were coming from the tree. People think I'm nuts, but that's the only way they could have gotten on me in that pattern.

Nope Donna, you're not nuts. Robins are suspected of carrying deer ticks, as well. This is a Cedar Waxwing (not a deer tick on him).

There is also this article from the NY Times.

Sea Birds
Deer ticks can also be present in your yard from rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, etc.

Well, not to tick anyone off but,

I can say, there is not an actual herbal (plant) "remedy" for Lyme and even the most experienced and responsible herbalist will say do the antibiotics the doctors give. It is nothing to mess with. At most herbs can be used to assist in alleviating problems secondary or as a result of to Lyme's but not the illness itself.

I am sure some could argue this, but if you look into products and read the actual research...you'll find it won't cure or prevent lyme. It will help with other situations though.

Thank God we're not in a heavy area for deer ticks. We do have to take precautions.

one thing i have told my customers becouse they insisted that becouse they only went out in their yard to pee that the ticks they picked up were from the vet or groomer.
not so.
Ticks also float in the air to travel.
surprising fact but, i saw it on discovery channel.
so anything is possible and they can get them anytime anywhere.

I have tried many of the holistic approaches including garlic and garlic pills, etc. but nothing worked for ticks prevention. The only thing that did work was Frontline. I hate the thought of the chemicals, but the benefits outweigh lyme disease. I wish I could find a different approach. I do think it has a lot to do where you live.

Just a quick update to my earlier post. Just pulled a wood tick off Hudson and a deer tick off Rita. This is the earliest we've ever seen them. Also, my BIL's dog (who he uses Frontline on religiously year round)was just diagnosed with Lyme disease for the third time and this time is very ill, including having a great deal of fluid around her heart. I'm not sure there IS a good solution for this problem but I do hope if people find something that works that hasn't been mentioned here, that they share it.

Oh, and Paula ... that picture is GROSS!
