Obie's name -STARTED- as a literary reference to Oberon from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. But, in practice, that was too ponderous for the smushy, squirmy ball of fluff that came home with me. So, Obie it was. Funny, now most people hear it and think it is a Star Wars reference.. oh well, my apologies to the bard.

Love the genesis of Obie's name. I had an elderly neighbor that had a cat named Puck. When I asked if it was a Shakespearean reference she told no they got him during hockey season. The real truth behind the cat's name was it allowed her to swear without her hard of hearing husband catching on to her profanity. She was a hoot.

:kgo_057: Cute little baby!! They are so precious at that age, but boy do they grow fast! We had our name already picked out. We have a Kinnick and a Carver. My boyfriend went to the University of Iowa (Home of Kinnick Stadium and Carver Hawkeye Arena) ;) So I didn't really have much say in the names.. They were kind of a given! My brother actually named his dog after the greek goddess Hera; One of Zeus' many wives! I actually really like the name Zeus, although it might be a litte cliche for a big dog to have a name like that I think it's great! I also like the name Triton! Pick out a few names you like, and when you go to pick him up, call him by them.. you will be surprised how he will react to one that he likes. Our Carver was a Carver from day 1!

He does resemble Robbie Coltrane as the character in Harry Potter but is feeling
a bit down due to an Ear infection.

The Vet stated he has treated loads due to the British Indian Summer.

Best of luck with the Name Game.

Ok, I guess we will be waiting until blue boy comes home to find the name that sticks. Our list does include inspiration from Greek and Norse mythology, movies, literature, geographical place names, nautical references, size references etc. etc.

For fun, I present to you the largely unedited list. The indented names were the most popular names in our family of 5 which includes young children and a tween... Enjoy!

CONGRATS!!! And don't worry, you've got plenty of time! We chose 'Elwood' after my husband mentioned 'Jake'. We're still not sure if we picked the perfect name or if he just grew into an Elwood, but like Maggie's Elvis, it sure fit!

I have a teenage niece who helps out a local dairy farmer. She finally got to pick and name her own newborn calf for future showing. This girl is obsessed with Thomas Jefferson ( nobody seems to know why ) so she announced her hiefer's name...Jefferson. She didn't care that the cow was female. However, the dairy farmer told her the newborn calves must be named using the first letter of the month they were born. This one was born in February. So, my crazy, stubborn niece named her...Fefferson!
I think Monticello would have been better. Oops, I mean Fonticello. See, every name has a story.
