I got this email from Rhonda a bit ago, and am pasting it here:

I don't know what to say, it just keeps rolling in! Hope you have some time to go thru these when you get a chance.

I didn't have time to snap pics of them so I will send you links so you can see what the items are.
This one is really nice, the size is 48" x 48" by 6" thick. Here is the website...
http://www.muttmats.com/id50.htm ours is a really nice tan color.

On this site they sent a bottle of #'s 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, and also a spray perfume for dogs that they carry. http://www.espree.com/petcare/petproducts2.html#Anchor-47857

This decal site sent us quite a few "got newf?" window stickers - she custom made them for us!!

This guy has some beautiful work, some quite pricey but there are a few inexpensive items as well. He sent us a 20% off gift certificate.

Let me know what you think............Rhonda
I sure am glad I was able to take the other stuff to Jeannie already because it looks like I am still going to have quite the load. Think we should keep some of it for our next years event? LOL!

Does anyone think there is such a thing as TOO much stuff? Just curious
At least this way, everyone should win something!

While I don't object to paying pennies on the dollar for cool stuff we may want to think of an alternate plan.

Ian's Scout troop has an auction of donated items as a tie-in to their annual fundraiser. Unfortunately most of the time it just seems to be the parents who show up. Because of that the prices that things go for are usually insanely low as we have a combination of a low budget & not much competition (I picked up a very nice set of leaded crystal bar glasses for $0.25 each, gift certificates to local gas stations & grocery stores going for 60% of face value, a crate of used hand tools for $5 (value of a few hundred at least, etc). People lose sight of the reason for the auction is to raise funds for the boys rather than trying to get the most for the least amount of money possible.

I'm worried that with so much stuff there that we'll each find a couple of things that we really like, place the minimum bid (generally 20% or so of the value), & there won't be any others bidding. We might want to have a backup plan in mind where afer "x" percent (20?) of the items have been auctioned off, if the majority of them are going for way under their value, then we figure out some other way to dispose of the rest (Ebay? whoever lists them could keep whatever needed to cover their actual expenses & the rest go to Rescue) so that a larger amount of money actually gets to the dogs.

Just food for thought.

Greg~ You make a great point, but I think most of these items that I am collecting are going to be placed in the raffle, so people will just buy raffle tickets for the chance to win the items rather than bidding on them, there are only a couple items that I received that perhaps should be in the silent auction because they are worth quite a bit but most of it will be raffled I think, Annie & Jeannie are in charge of figuring out what will be raffled and what will be auctioned off but you do make a really good point. Thanks, Rhonda

The same could apply to a raffle. If there aren't "x" number of tickets in the bag (number to be determined as a percentage of value) then the item gets pulled & the tickets returned to whoever put them in.

Obviously this will be a big PITA to monitor (in fact the silent auction would be easier to fix - set the starting bid high) but the end result would be more money to rescue which is the whole point of it anyway.

You really do make a good point, Greg, I guess I was just hoping everyone would spend lots of money on raffle tickets...have any other ideas or suggestions in order to make it work like it should? Maybe do something other than a raffle or auction with some of it? I have never held an event like this so I really have no idea how else to make it work for us. One thing that I did suggest to Annie & Jeannie is to put alot of the items together to make one big basket of items so that way the prize will be worth a lot more and the bidding could at least start higher or it would just make better raffle prizes even. Anyone have any ideas? Because your right, our main objective is to raise money for newf rescue, so I am sure we can come up with something if we all put our heads together.
Rhonda

p.s. Maybe I did get a little carried away when I started searching for items :( but I really truely had no idea that people would be so generous. All of the companies have been so helpful to us, I hate to send anything back or turn away any donated items. I hope we can come up with something.

How about having a "door prize".Get everyone to sign a paper when they show up and then pick a name later. That would get one good prize out of the way. Considering I'm going to be thinking Canadian Dollars when I'm buying tickets I still have ear marked $100.Not sure I'll be doing the silent auction as I never seem to win at those things.and Half the stuff I wouldn't be able to cart home on the plane anyway. Also we could always team a few things up. Like my Xmas gift wrap with something else, since there is so much. This is coming from someone who helped with the penny table items at our school fairs. We could have games maybe for some of the little prizes.? Just thinking off the top of my head at the moment.Although with moving this past weekend.I have to admit my head may not be working properly. :D Karen

That sounds like a great idea. Since we are doing fun and games we can have some of these as prizes for the winners. We can have contests too like--swim racing to get the bumper, biggest leap off the dock (which I am sure would go to Lu) Longest drool, hot dog catch, stupid dog tricks. Oh the list could go on and on......

Rhonda and I have been talking about this off list, and another idea we had was to make up baskets filled with various assortments of some of the things Rhonda has received. We thought about designating a basket for each regional newf rescue represented by newf netteres, and maybe one for NCA Rescue, and some of the international newf rescues (i.e. Canadian and Austrailian). Each basket would be raffled off separately, and the proceeds for the sale of each basket would go to the designated rescue group...

just an idea...
