So we did the road trip from the Vancouver area to northern Alberta (Athabasca were our daughter and son in law live in the beginning of September. First big road trip with Moby. The 1st step was Moby’s comfort for the drive so I built a 'platform' for the back seat area of our Ram 3500 crew cab. Fits in with the rear seats folded up, Moby uses his ramp to get in. Yes we added a couple of Wal Mart dog seat covers and quilts to keep some of the hair & boogers off the seats.
The plan was a long 14 1/2 hour drive straight through with a few breaks. Great plan until we hit Jasper Park, the highway had been closed for 5 hours due to an accident. We caught the last hour of the stoppage sitting on the highway and then idled through the rest of the park due to bridge construction and single lane traffic near Jasper. The good news was when you spotted Elk or deer you got a great view as you crawled by and they would not be jumping in front of your speeding car. We did learn that Moby is protective of his truck. We could walk him up and down the line of vehicles and he was happy to visit with everyone. Someone walking up to our truck it was treated the same as being behind our back fence at home. Big woofs and defiant stance, especially near my wife's side. Due to the delay we ended up having to find a motel at 10:30 at night (14 hours after leaving home) about 2 hours short of our destination. Did not want to drive a 2 lane highway in the dark with all the wildlife. First time for Moby in a hotel or sleeping away from home. Took him a little while to settle down and then it was the bathroom call at 5:30 am. At least we got an early start. The next day’s drive was uneventful
A few pictures of Moby with our daughter’s Goldens Oakley (darker) & Lulu (light) playing in the backyard. Moby enjoyed the week as the weather cooled dropping below freezing with snow flurries. The perfect temperature to lay outside on the back porch.
The return trip was 14.5 hours home without any incidents. A good time was had by all two & four leggers.
