Mind to Mind Training Levels

Are any of you familiar with Sue Ailsby's Training Levels? A friend of mine recently introduced them to me and I have decided to incorporate them into Katie and Louie's training. Here is the link if you want to check it out: http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOGS/%20Dog1/levels.html

It's all based on positive reinforcement and teaches the dog how to problem solve. It would be great for puppies or rescues especially since it focuses on teaching them self control. Also, as they progress through the levels it becomes easier and faster for them to learn new skills as they develop the habit of using their brains more fully.

On the different exercises listed Katie and Louie are all over the spectrum. In some areas they are already at level 5 (out of 7) in other areas they are still at level 1. I'm going to start working on filling in the gaps.

I went to one of Sue Ailsby's 3-day seminars. That was quite an experience! It completely opened my eyes to how I was training at the time and how I want to train...turned out those two things were not the same!
I worked the levels right away after I attended the seminar and Ebony tested out of level 1, but Ross didn't...I'm sure now he could.
If you want to start tracking your progress on the levels here is a great site....

The yahoo is list is very helpful also!

Isn't Sue the best! We teach both the levels and traditional classes. Levels are the way to go if you can find those classes in your area.

Did Becky have this on Facebook a few months ago? For some reason, I find the site very difficult to read. My old lady eyes get tired with the different colors.
Bummer because it sounds amazing.

This is what we must be doing with Scott, our dog behaviorist. he was our initial trainer when we had so much trouble with Annabelle. We have done quite a bit of this stuff, i just did not know it was a specific system.............I think that is why our dogs fast tracked at the kennel club, especially the agility.Scott alway taught us that the "wait" was the most important cue you can have. We can stop our dogs dead with wait. And "Jeep" is handy too when we are at the river and we want the dogs to get in from any distance. I think ours would stay in there forever with the windows open. Really good info to have now, Thank you.........Ronnie

I went to a couple of Sue's seminars before she initiated the training levels. I ended up training a cross over newf and finished a water title on her. When I sent her out you could tell she was thinking about how to do it. Changed my way at looking at training about the way I wanted to train.

For the puppy people who want to start in the direction of the training Corally Burmaster is another resource and puts out a good video called 'Puppy Kindergarten': http://www.clickertrain.com/

You could probably copy and paste the text into a word processor to make it black & white and easier to read.

Charity,

THANK YOU!!!! I was getting bored with training Cooper and wasn't sure how to get him to "the next level". I just adjusted his training charts to incorporate these steps. WOW. I'm interested again and so is he.

I love it!

Great Liisa! Katie, Louie and I are having a great time with the levels.

There is a cool online training tracker http://levels.honkersoftware.com/dogs/list The link is temporarily down, but hopefully it will be up again later today.

There is also a yahoo group: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/traininglevels/?yguid=341197148

I had not heard of this. Thanks so much for posting the information. I've bookmarked and will read through it more, as soon as I have some time.
