Looking to rescue or rehome a Newf

We have had Newfs for many many years, currently just one altered 3 yr old Landseer, I have searched everywhere in Western Canada for a dog, they all seem to be in the States! When we purchased our Piper, as a puppy, we had to have him air cargo from St. Louis Mo, but an adult just doesn't fly, (never found a crate big enough for a full grown dog to turn around in LOL) We live in Alberta, so the weather is perfect for our Newf and his 'brother' Sam, Golden Retriever, and we live north of Calgary in the country, and I am home full time, and we would give a good loving home to an older dog or a special needs dog, a female would be preferred, we would have her altered, but a Newf is out there needing us, we just have to get the word out that we are needing her/him. Thankx please keep us in mind

If you qualify and are willing to drive, we have Fancy going into a foster home up near Rockford, IL. I'm sure I can get it either west or north...but you'll have to drive a bit.

No, I was supposed to do a transport from here (nearer KC) to St. Louis to bring Tess to her new mom who lives near Kankankee, IL and Fancy was to go with her and be picked up near Tess's new home by a foster who lives in Crystal Lake.

And I was also meeting foster mom #2 from Nashville, TN who was bringing up the pair of Newf. mix brothers for me to take to my place. BUT...TN is flooding...all the highways are shut down so she can't bring them up to me....even the highways have cars filled halfway with water in them!!

So I'm at a standstill now. I'll keep you posted.

Donna, we think she is lovely, even with her poodle paw LOL, but Rockford is 1700 miles from us and the closest we will be is in Winnipeg, Manitoba for our Daughters social in September, I am sure that such a special heart will have found a home by then.

Have you checked the breeders listing on the Newf Dog of Canada site? Many of the breeders on there MAY be able to help you find an older dog. Also try Newf Rescue Canada...as there may be rescue dogs here in Canada available although I am quite sure there is nothing in Alberta or Saskatchewan right now. I can assure you though, there are dogs available right here in Canada :)

Oh my, checked out Newf Rescue Canada and the Alberta contact is Tubby Miller, he trained us in obedience with Morgan and we won his first Lady Jane Obedience trial trophy! Why hadn't I thought of contacting him before? We were all members of Alberta Newfoundland Fanciers Association together, carting, Newfie get togethers', confirmation and obedience and just fun. So a email to Tubby and see what he can help us with. Thankx again

YES...the old guard is still around LOL...I expect Tubby will be at the national..but give it a few days...he may have some local contacts for you..if not...stretch out to other provinces. Western Canada doesn't have a lot in rescue usually, but if you are on the waiting list...it will come.
