Limping..

Hi Everyone! It has been awhile since my last post and unfortunately this isn't a good one :( We were gone this weekend for a wedding and came back to Beau limping on his back leg. We had a friend at our place watching the boys, and he said they were out back playing and wrestling and Beau came in limpy. When he isn't walking, he won't put any pressure on the leg and he holds it up completely, or holds it so just the tips of his toes touch the ground. He sometimes will even hold it up when lying down as well. We have felt his whole leg numerous times, running hands up and down holding it up and moving it around and he never exhibits any signs of pain or whimpers, which is very odd for Beau as anyone who knows him knows he is the biggest baby and cries at EVERYTHING. We noticed this Sunday night and it is now Tuesday morning and there doesn't seem to be any improvement, have kept him seperate from Tux and Sully so he isn't doing any rough housing. We figured we would give him a couple days to see if he improved on his own otherwise he is going into the Vet. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on what might be wrong? He is currently about 16 months old. The way he is holding it up and toe touching concerns me....

Sorry about your boy...It could be anything from a really bad strain sprain to a torn ACL. The holding it up and not putting any preasure on it is typical sign of ACL. My boy tore both his ACL's at 2 playing with his brother. I would take him to the vet to be checked out.

Em! I am soooo sorry to hear about Beau. If you and Eric need anything just let us know, we're right around the corner. I think a vet visit is in order. It could really be anything. When Ayasha was much younger she hurt her back leg rough-housing and exhibited the same symptoms.... luckily was just a sprain, but it took a long time for her to get rid of the limp... My fingers are tightly crossed you are not dealing with an ACL issue.... please keep me posted.

Ugh. Kind of sounds like a CCL or meniscal rupture...I'd get him into the vet for a drawer test and an ortho exam. Fingers crossed for just a soft tissue injury!

We have just gone through two cruciate surgeries, check it out it just might be a sprain. I hope he just needs rest, good luck.

So Beau saw the vet. He got his temperature taken and it was at 104. The vet felt around and moved his leg everywhere and said Beau isn't showing any signs of pain in the knee or hip area. He said could be mainly three things, OCD, tear or Pano. He said because Beau has had Pano in his front leg before and he's still young and growing and has a fever (which is common with pano?) that's the most likely cause. He has given him a week of anti-inflammatory and rest. If beau has no improvement after the week of anti inflammatory then he is going back for X-rays!

Keeping my fingers crossed that this is what the problem is and he will start feeling better.

It's never any fun when our little ones don't feel good. Hope that the medication and rest do him a world of good and that he is back on his feet in no time! :grouphug:
