Limping - nothing swollen or hurting

Penny ran down a steep embankment when we were hiking 10 days ago, and must have twisted something, because she immediately did not want to put weight on her front left paw. She had to walk an additional 1/3 mile (limping) to get back to the car.

Nothing was swollen or hurting as I felt up and down the leg and shoulder, so assumed just a pulled muscle and spent the last 10 days trying to keep her off it. Every time she starts feeling better, she will re-aggravate it by getting excited or jumping or trying to play with her sister. Still nothing swollen and no noticeable pain, but the limp (although better) is still there.

Suggestions? I haven't had an Xray - assumed since nothing swollen, there is unlikely anything broken, and she is putting weight on it and she isn't in obvious pain. I have an appointment with Physical Therapy next week, but I just don't know what to do in the meantime. How long should it take for a pulled muscle to heal? I would have though she would have been ok by now.

I think I would go for the x-ray. It could be just a slight fracture or a torn tendon. Doesn't necessarily have to swell. Only an x-ray will tell.

Sometimes a bad sprain is worse than a break for healing. They can take 4-6 weeks to really heal. Still a vet visit is best. One of our dogs had no obvious physical signs but limped around for a few days before we went to the vet. Turned out to be a broken toe.

My little girl started suddenly limping but gave no pain indicators. I took her to the vets and she was put on very limited activity (only outside on lead for potty breaks and I kept her on lead in the house) for 3 weeks and then re-evaluated. We had her on anti inflammatories and sedatives for the first 3 weeks (she is a very high energy mixed breed). We then added a little more walking on lead for the next 3 weeks. She healed but it was a very slow process and I needed the sedatives by the end.

XRay showed nothing. Still nothing swollen. She's improving every day, and almost normal now, but not quite. We have had to sedate her to keep her from jumping around and re-aggravating her injury!
