Limping after resting

A couple weeks ago Kona was fine playing in the yard and had a nice snooze on the deck. When she got up she was limping ... favoring her front leg. She got better over the evening and was finw the next day. I have kept an eye on her and haven't seen further limping. She was fine yesterday and last night. She slept on her bed all night and this morning was limping again when she got up. She has been outside to do her business and ran back inside, but still has the limp.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Hi
Sometimes you can stiffen up after sleeping and moving around is actually what works the kinks out. I myself have an old lower back injury and I find that when I first get up some mornings it can be sore but after moving around it feels better (it acts up when I have to drive long distances too and then I have to walk it out). My 9 year old Timber is very stiff some mornings and will slightly limp (front right). I vigoursly rub and massage her down for 5 minutes, sometimes that's all she needs and sometimes it lasts all morning, I think the massaging helps (shoulders, neck, chest, down her back and sides and rear). My Vet said she has a little arthritis in her elbow and the limping comes and goes - but I've noticed first thing in the morning is usually when we'll see it. Massaging isn't going to correct the arthritis (I wish) but it's great for muscles and getting the circulation going. Just thought I'd share my similar experience - hope it helps.
Good luck and I hope Kona is feeling better soon,
Marina

Sometimes I do worry when my girls get running and playing crazy. But this seems to be after she has been laying down for an extended time.

its probably where if they lay for a while they stiffen up same as we do and once they get moving then they are ok. Perhaps a blanket between her and the floor may help , stop any drafts or chills getting to her muscles

I hate to say it, but could be bad elbows or I guess sholders too. Snuffles was fine, layed on the couch, and when he got off he was limping bad. After the 2nd time, we went to the vet and xrays confirmed elbow problems. He was about 3 then. Can't say things have gotten much worse in the next 4 years. He hasn't limped that bad in quite a while. Maybe all those supplements are helping...knock on wood.

Kona is 2.5 years now. She seems to do better as the day goes along, first thing in the morning is the worst time. One other change for her lately is the weather... and because we are doing a remodel of our house the girls have been spending the day in the outdoor dog pen. Before that they were inside all day. Since it has been bothering her several days now I am going to get her into see the vet.

Kona went to the vet today.... was checked out and determined that the issue is in her shoulder, after X-rays they ruled out arthritis or other joint issue. Vet said that she has a soft tissue injury ...so she has anti-inflamatory meds and needs to take it easy for a while. She should be on the mend soon.

Needless to say I was relieved that it wasn't anything more serious. :)

Glad to here soft tissue....took Zeke about a full month of restrictions but he was pretty heavy, I'm glad for the results....simple enough...hopefully you'll need less time than that! Hardest thing I found was stopping the two from playing and larking about.
